Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please tell us something about yourself that you’ve never shared before.
Oh, that’s a hard one cause I’m an open book, but one thing people might not know is I’m terrified of heights. Like legs go jelly, can’t move kind of crippling fear.
How did you get into music? Please tell us more about your journey.
There wasn’t a specific moment as I’ve always been into music, and I started writing at 13. The moment I decided that I would do it full-time was after I was in a psychiatric unit, and I decided that I wanted to do what made me happy and couldn’t go back to a dead-end job. I literally packed my bags and moved to London to chase my dreams. It was a big step, as I wasn’t long out of the hospital, but I knew that I had to do it.
Who are your role models?
This list is extensive, but I am drawn to artists who are unashamedly themselves, artists like P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Sam Smith, and Adele, to name a few. I call them the truth-tellers who aren’t afraid to show their scars to the world to help heal others.
What inspires you?
It’s life in general that inspires me because my music is like my diary. You get to see the part of me that I don’t sometimes talk about, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I don’t hold back, and it’s a place where I can be vulnerable and myself. I am someone who feels all the feelings all of the time, so I do write a lot and often get inspired and run to my keyboard.
Please tell us about your latest single, ‘Mountain.’
Mountain is a really special song to me. It was written last year, and it was inspired by a conversation that I had with someone close to me who has addiction issues. I was trying to get them to get help, and they just didn’t feel strong enough. It was horrendous to be on the other side watching someone you love in self-destruction. It takes so much strength to pull yourself out of rock bottom and start the healing journey, so you have to build up that resilience in yourself to take on the fight. Your demons can be so loud and powerful sometimes; our heads can really be a hard place to live. I have been there before with my own mental health journey, so I could relate and also used some of my own experience in the song.
Writing the song, it just came out of me. I was sitting by my keyboard at 3 a.m. as I couldn’t sleep, and the song just came out. The demo was just me and a piano, but I could hear the song being very grand and epic in my head, so I sent it to my producer, Chris Stagg, and he helped me build it into the song you hear now. I want the listener to come on the journey with me, and as the song builds, they feel that in their body too. The racing heart, the anticipation, and like you are going into battle. With the sharp stings and the big booming drums, I think we created a soundscape where the song really takes you on an emotional journey in the music, the lyrics, and the vocals.
What’s your most memorable experience?
I’d say that it was being at the Grammy Awards this year. It was such a pinch-me moment being in the room with so many people who inspired me and being able to just soak up the atmosphere.
Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?
I think I’d say that the whole overnight success thing is a myth. It takes a lot of work and dedication to work your way up the industry, especially if you’re doing it the old-fashioned way and not off the back of a talent show or something like that. We have kinda been sold this dream that one day you’re working in a normal job and the next day you’re a superstar when, in reality, most artists are working behind the scenes for years to build success.
What keeps you going when things get tough?
I’d say the passion. I can’t see myself doing anything else, and I love music, so that always brings me back. I don’t think that if you have that kind of passion for something that you can stop, I literally hear songs in my head and have to get them out, so I think that’s what keeps me going even when the industry kicks your ass.

I just hope that my music, and especially this song, brings some comfort to those who need it and reminds them they aren’t alone. This world is tough, but so are you, and you got this, whatever your mountain is.
