A Tale of Two Worlds

Cassandra Chaletaine’s journey is one many dreamers can relate to—a relentless pursuit of success in the glitzy, but often ruthless, world of Hollywood. Despite her talents, Cassandra finds herself battling barriers of race and fortune, a reflection of the real challenges faced by many in the entertainment industry. Her return to Boston, intended as a brief respite, becomes a journey of self-discovery as she reconnects with Michael Kiley, an old friend with shared dreams and a secret love for Cassandra that he’s nurtured over the years.

Michael, having experienced his share of disillusionment with Hollywood, chooses to invest his talents back in his community, illustrating a path of fulfillment divergent from Cassandra’s pursuits but equally valid. Their reunion sparks a romantic flame and ignites a dilemma for Cassandra, pitting her professional aspirations against the potential for personal happiness.

Love, Family and the Pursuit of Dreams

Published by Inkspell PublishingTo Play for Love” is more than a romance; it’s a deep dive into the dynamics of chasing dreams and the sacrifices they entail. Henderson skillfully captures the essence of this struggle through the lens of Cassandra’s career and her budding relationship with Michael. The novel poses poignant questions about the true meaning of success and the role of love and family in achieving true fulfillment.

Lorelei Henderson draws inspiration from her late cousin, actor Nelsan Ellis, infusing the narrative with authentic experiences and emotions reflective of the challenges faced by minorities in the entertainment industry. This homage adds a layer of depth to Cassandra’s character, making her journey not just a personal story but a broader commentary on persistence, resilience, and the pursuit of equity.

Excerpt from the Book

Cassandra continued up the walk toward the double-glass entrance doors when she was suddenly bumped from behind. When she turned, a stack of wooden dining chairs were being held aloft by strong arms. Through the chair’s slats, she caught a glimpse of bright gray eyes in a solidly handsome brown face partially covered in a neatly trimmed beard.
They stared at each other through the slats for brief, heart-pounding seconds with a sudden, irretrievable fore knowledge of the past and the present entwining like lovers.
“Sorry,” a deep, rum-colored voice said from the stack. “I wasn’t paying enough attention to where I was going.”
He side-stepped right at the same time Cassandra did, causing them to bump again before he pulled off a deft twist, turning the chairs from between them out of harm’s way as he circled around her. He took a few steps, stopped a beat before moving off, and disappearing inside.
She stared after him. For a moment, she thought she’d recognized him. It was the voice she knew it yet couldn’t place it. Then again, it could just be her active imagination. “What’s wrong, Cass?” Her sister had come up beside her.
“I thought I recognized someone, but maybe not.”
