Counselor George Mentz is an international lawyer, professor, entrepreneur, author, and musician whose professional career spans more than 30 years.
In addition to his distinguished career in law, education, and music, Counselor George Mentz served as a White House Commissioner appointed by President Donald J. Trump to the Commission on Presidential Scholars. He also served as a policy advisor with the Economic Advisory Team for Donald J. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign in Colorado.
He has taught over 300 graduate law and business courses and authored more than 100 books and audio programs focused on leadership, business strategy, wealth management, and human potential.
Music has remained an important part of his life alongside his professional accomplishments. Raised around the musical traditions of New Orleans, George Mentz studied trumpet and piano during childhood while developing a lifelong appreciation for jazz, blues, soul, and gospel music. Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is George Mentz, and I am an international lawyer, professor, author, entrepreneur, and musician. Over the last 30 years, I have taught more than 300 graduate law and business courses and authored over 100 books and audio programs focused on wealth management, leadership, success psychology, human potential, and business strategy. I currently serve as CEO of the Global Academy of Finance and Management, an international certification and standards organization with members and affiliates in more than 150 countries.
Beyond education and law, music has always been a major part of my life. I grew up around jazz, gospel, blues, and New Orleans music culture, and I was trained on trumpet and piano as a child. Recently, I returned to songwriting and production with my new 27-song album Midnight Drive, which revives original recordings and ideas I created decades ago. My work today blends creativity, education, entrepreneurship, and philosophy into a mission focused on helping people unlock their potential and pursue meaningful success.
Please tell us about your journey.
My journey has been a combination of discipline, creativity, persistence, and reinvention. Early in life, I was deeply interested in music, philosophy, law, economics, and personal achievement. I spent years working as a DJ, songwriter, and creative artist while simultaneously pursuing academic and professional goals. Eventually, I earned degrees in law and business and began building organizations dedicated to professional education and global standards.
Over time, I became involved in international teaching, publishing, consulting, and public service, including roles as a commissioner, educator, and executive. Yet even while building a career in law and education, music remained part of my identity. Many of the recordings and lyrics I created in the 1990s were thought to be lost after Hurricane Katrina. Rediscovering those tapes decades later felt like reconnecting with a forgotten part of myself.
That experience taught me that creativity never truly disappears. Sometimes dreams simply wait for the right season of life to return. The release of Midnight Drive became more than a music project—it became proof that reinvention is possible at any stage of life.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
One of the most important strategies in my life has been continuous learning. I have always believed that knowledge compounds over time.
