Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Chris Gardner, author of The Other Side of the Sun. I am the Vice President of Advertising for the company I work for here in Pittsburgh. When I’m not working, I’m spending time in the woods with my wife and two boys, ages (5 and 8). 

Please tell us about your book. 

My novel is a classic dystopian tale that explores what happens to a family when all technology ceases to function. What begins with a party atmosphere quickly turns serious as food begins to run out, water stops flowing, and with nothing working (no cars, no cell phones, nothing electronic), how quickly does your neighbor turn into your enemy? Realistic and relatable characters make for a well-paced read that puts you, the reader, into relatable situations that leave you asking, would I survive something like this?

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey to publishing my book started with a lifetime love of adventure, grit, and tackling challenges. In my role in advertising, I write commercials, blogs at christophergardnerworkshop.com, etc. Writing a novel was a nice, natural extension. 

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Grit and perseverance. I love seeing what is over the next hill, and I love exploring and trying new things. I have a knack of being able to stick to a project and once I’m truly engaged, I want it to succeed.

Any message for our readers

My message would be simple. All things being equal, we all have challenges in life, but we must be prepared and have the mental toughness to see ourselves through tough situations. The events of my novel may seem far-fetched, but we as a species are closer to this than you realize. One large solar flare hitting Earth just right and we go right back to a pre-technology society overnight. If something like this were to happen, how many would be able to cope? Grit, as a personal quality, I believe, is somewhat lacking in today’s culture.
