We had the privilege of interviewing Amara Quinn. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi Amara, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Thank you so much for having me — it’s a pleasure to be here. At my core, I’m someone who believes deeply in the power of healing, growth, and self-compassion. I’m a wellness coach, writer, and mental health advocate, but those titles only tell part of the story. I’m also someone who’s been through darkness and learned how to find light again.

I struggled with anorexia and bulimia for many years, and it was through that long, often painful journey that I discovered my passion for helping others. That path led me to train and work in psychiatry — I’m a qualified healthcare professional with several years of experience working in both adult and child & adolescent psychiatric settings. These years gave me a deep understanding of mental health from many different angles.

Today, I support people who want to build healthier, more fulfilling lives — not just through fitness or nutrition but by transforming how they relate to themselves. Outside of my work, I find joy in painting, making music, spending time with my rescue cat Tarzan, and just being quiet and present with life. I guess you could say I’m a heart-led person who’s committed to living and guiding with authenticity, balance, and care.

Please tell us about your book.

My book, titled Weight Loss, Self-Love and Personal Growth, is a practical guide for anyone who wants to improve their health, build confidence, and feel more balanced in everyday life. It’s not just about fitness or weight loss; it’s really about creating a sustainable, healthy relationship with your body and mind.

What was extremely important to me while writing it was that it should be genuinely practical and easy to follow. I know how overwhelming personal change can feel, especially when you’re struggling. That’s why I made sure every chapter includes clear, actionable steps, real-life strategies, and tools you can start using right away. No fluff, no complicated jargon. I wanted it to feel like a conversation with a friend who’s been there.

The book also includes a free 10-day workbook to help guide your first steps, and there’s a special chapter for anyone affected by eating disorders — something I’ve experienced personally and care deeply about. I hope that readers feel supported, empowered, and capable of creating real, lasting change.

Please share your journey with our readers.

My journey has been anything but linear, and that’s probably what shaped me the most — both personally and professionally. For over a decade, I struggled with anorexia and bulimia. It was a long and exhausting road that affected every aspect of my life. Recovery wasn’t a straight line, and it definitely wasn’t quick. It took 17 years of therapy, countless setbacks, and a lot of inner work to finally begin healing in a real, sustainable way.

But through that process, I learned so much about myself. I began to understand how deeply our emotional well-being is connected to how we treat our bodies. That insight inspired me to go deeper and study mental health professionally. I trained and worked in psychiatry, gaining experience in both adult and adolescent settings, and saw how many people carry silent struggles — just like I once did.

Eventually, I decided to combine everything I had learned — from my personal recovery to my clinical experience — and became a wellness coach. Today, I help others break free from toxic diet culture, build healthier habits, and approach themselves with more compassion. What once felt like a burden has become my greatest motivation: to support others in building a life that feels healthy, balanced, and truly their own.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

The most important strategies were:

  • Therapy — It helped me understand the deeper emotional patterns behind my behaviors.
  • Mindfulness and self-compassion — Learning to be kinder to myself was a huge shift.
  • Evidence-based health practices — I stopped chasing fads and started focusing on sustainable, science-backed methods.
  • Creating structure through small habits — Consistency in daily habits helped me build momentum.
  • Letting go of perfection — Progress, not perfection, became my mantra.

These are the same strategies I share in my book — because they actually work and can be adapted to any life situation.

Any message for our readers?

You don’t need to wait until you feel “ready” or “perfect” to start creating the life you want. Healing and growth are messy, non-linear, and often uncomfortable — but they’re also incredibly rewarding. Be patient with yourself. Start small, stay consistent, and above all, be kind to yourself along the way. You deserve to feel good in your body and at peace in your mind.

Thank you so much, Amara, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
