Hi, Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

Hi, I’m Sean Boynes. I’m a guitarist, vocalist, and producer, and I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best in the business. After a decade-long hiatus, I’ve returned to the music scene with a project close to my heart—Maverick Smith.

 

Please tell us about your Latest Album.

With Friends & Imperfections is our latest album, and it’s really a revival of sorts. Recorded deep in the Ohio Valley, it brings together an eclectic mix of Grammy winners, indie rock icons, world-class bagpipers, and even an orchestra. Every note was captured live, celebrating the raw, imperfect beauty of real musicianship. It’s not just about the songs; it’s about the journey and the collaboration. Each track has a unique flavor, reflecting the diverse talent involved, making the album a real testament to the craft of music-making.

 

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey has been one of stepping back to reset. After spending years with bands like Lowlander and Firefly Fringe, I hit a point where the passion I had for music started to fade, and I realized I was burnt out. It was time to focus on the things that mattered most— just finding balance again. During that time away, I had the chance to reevaluate what I wanted from music and life. It wasn’t about chasing success anymore; it was about getting back to creating for the pure love of it. When I was ready to return, I wasn’t looking to make something perfect or polished—I just wanted to reconnect with the joy of making music, and to do it with the people I care about.

 

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Staying true to what matters—both in life and in music—has been my guiding principle. After stepping back, I realized that authenticity and passion are far more important than following trends. Creating music that feels real, both to me and to the people I’m working with, has been key. The power of collaboration can’t be overstated—surrounding myself with musicians who share that same passion and trust allows us to create something far greater together than we ever could alone. Another important strategy was learning to embrace patience, to let things evolve naturally without rushing the process. With With Friends & Imperfections, it wasn’t about pushing for perfection, but about letting the music grow organically and enjoying every part of the journey.
