This hands-on experience, especially serving children with special needs, shaped her deep-seated conviction that empathy and acceptance are essential to a thriving community. She learned how impactful it can be for a child with disabilities to feel truly understood—an experience that often leads to remarkable growth for both the child and the people around them.

Today, Lollie resides in upstate New York, where she remains dedicated to helping marginalized communities. Married to her soulmate for 30 years and a proud mother of two, she draws inspiration from everyday interactions, infusing her writing with kindness, hope, and the steadfast belief that everyone deserves respect. Oliver’s and His Extraordinary Shell is an inspiring story about a courageous, young turtle with a spinal condition who embarks on a journey to discover his purpose. Through resilience and determination, Oliver learns that his differences make him extraordinary and that every child has a place in the world to shine. 

Please tell us about your journey.

I’ve been writing since childhood. I’m surprised I wasn’t born with a pen in one hand and a notepad in the other. I grew up writing for local magazines, newspapers, and various other publications. After running a family publishing company for over 20 years until its closure in 2022, I embarked on a solo journey to share stories that hold a special place in my heart. 

From 2015-2022, I had the privilege of supporting preschool teachers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists in New York State while working with special needs children. My experience collaborating with families of children with disabilities has been among the most fulfilling and inspiring moments of my life, and, in part, is why I wrote this book. 

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Strategies that have helped me on this journey are consistency and discipline by setting goals and completing projects, seeking feedback from family,

and friends to ensure my stories connect with readers, and staying inspired by drawing inspiration from everyday life.

Too often, children with pure hearts and beautiful souls struggle to find acceptance and friendship because of their differences, leaving them undervalued in society.
