“Money & Bible: Shocking Secrets about Financial Wealth, Tithing, and Giving” explores how faith and finances can blend. Author Borth Vold recounts earning a year’s salary in four months, starting a debt-free family, and relying on conviction every step of the way. His story invites readers to see that biblical wisdom might lead to financial freedom and deeper purpose.
Inspiring Foundations
He was raised in a village bordered by scenic mountains and rivers, where his family gathered food from local fields. This fostered a hard work ethic, a deep connection to nature, and an appreciation for self-reliance. Over time, he served as a soldier on demanding missions, then studied math, physics, English, pedagogy, and IT. Eventually, he became a teacher, moved into the IT sphere, and explored real estate. His varied roles honed his ability to analyze intricate matters, clarify confusion, and communicate with empathy.
Tithing’s Hidden Dimensions
In this book, the author tackles confusion about tithing and money. Deuteronomy 14:23 speaks of eating one’s tithe “in the presence of the Lord,” suggesting givers may share in it too. Vold stresses salvation can’t be purchased; it’s an undeserved gift from God. Tithing, he says, is meant to flow from gratitude instead of guilt. When approached joyfully, it can foster confidence. His personal accounts include financial blessings and timely provisions—reminders that God often meets needs unexpectedly. From job offers to sudden windfalls, openhearted giving can spark surprise gains. He also asserts wealth isn’t automatically sinful. Money is a neutral tool, useful or harmful depending on motives. Some fear they’ll compromise their faith by earning more, but he believes honest prosperity can serve godly aims. A generous mindset invites more chances to help others, making money a channel of blessing.
The book highlights stories of individuals who felt burdened by church expectations on tithing. Some left, believing they couldn’t measure up. Vold wants to replace that pressure with freedom rooted in thankfulness. A willingness to give and share can open unexpected doors. Family, friends, sports, and nature round out his life. Harvesting his own food reminds him of God’s abundance. Many avoid money-and-faith discussions, but he sees them as linked. Scripture offers guidance on generosity, debt, and stewardship. He contends God wants people to flourish, not be limited by misunderstandings. Tithing, in his view, is an opportunity to honor God through practical gratitude. Aligning finances with biblical principles can unlock a profound sense of security.
Finding Biblical Balance
By exploring passages in both Old and New Testaments, Vold constructs a balanced framework. He rejects the notion that believers must pay God for salvation or blessings. Instead, he focuses on God’s grace as the bedrock, urging believers to give from joy. Salvation isn’t determined by one’s bank account. Such a perspective unites faith and finance under one goal: serving God and uplifting others. His technical background helps him dissect verses that many skim. He finds insights revealing that stewardship and devotion go hand in hand. Money can strengthen unity and ministry rather than divide. It’s the mindset behind how it’s earned and applied that counts most.
Conclusion
“Money & Bible: Shocking Secrets about Financial Wealth, Tithing, and Giving” offers an inspiring vision of what can happen when faith shapes finances. Through real-life testimony, scriptural wisdom, and practical advice, Vold shows that biblical truths can guide money choices. He emphasizes that prosperity includes purpose, and joyful giving. While financial gain may occur, lasting fulfillment resides in a spirit free from fear and grounded in gratitude. He reminds readers that God’s generosity extends well beyond money. By relying on divine guidance, individuals can escape debt, give freely, and see surprising favor. This book urges believers to challenge old assumptions, welcoming a fuller view of how God blesses faithful stewards. In the end, Vold envisions a community unafraid to succeed and share, celebrating blessings as they come. Additionally, Vold’s international travels and mission involvement have broadened his perspective on stewardship. He has taught in various settings, engaged with people from many cultures, and seen firsthand how biblical principles transcend linguistic and social barriers. His writing aims to link spiritual truths with circumstances, blending scholarly insight with experience. By viewing money as a tool that unites rather than divides, he believes believers everywhere can discover the freedom that emerges from trusting God with every resource. We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
My name is Bard, aka Borth Vold. I am a man and self-employed. I work in the IT industry and a little in real estate. I have been a Christian for a long time and have lived in many countries. I have also traveled a lot, including some mission trips. I teach often and write books.
Please tell us about your Book.
My latest book is about money, giving, and tithing in the Bible. I see many people struggling with these topics. Some believe they should not be rich or have a lot of money. Others blame wealthy people, thinking it is wrong to have money. Many are afraid to earn money, borrow money, or even succeed. Some think God does not want to bless them, while others believe God demands payment through tithing to be a Christian.
These are all misunderstandings.
In my book, I explore everything the Bible says about tithing, giving, and money. I go through both the Old and New Testaments, studying all the relevant verses. In the end, we find true financial freedom.
I have met many people who left the church because of money issues. Some felt rejected because they couldn’t tithe due to financial struggles. Others were told, ‘Becoming a Christian is easy—you just need to give 10% to the church.’ But salvation is free. God does not demand money from us. There may be special situations where giving is important, but the main message in the Bible is that God gives to us. In response, out of thankfulness, we give to others and bless those in need.
Joy, freedom, and gratitude are key themes in my book. It’s about truly understanding what the Bible teaches about money and living with financial peace.
Why did it take me many years to write this book?
First of all, I had to go through many personal experiences. I believe that when I gave generously, I was also richly rewarded. But being richly rewarded is not just about money. Of course, financial blessings are nice, and I have experienced them, but a truly rich life is about much more than wealth.
When we go to God, give from our hearts, and do our best for Him, He blesses us in all areas of life. True wealth includes money, but it also means having peace, purpose, and joy.
This book shares my journey. There were times when I earned a year’s salary in just four months. Other times, I received things I needed for free. But most importantly, I have always had God with me. In every challenge, He was there—guiding me, giving me purpose, and supporting me.
I never gave out of guilt. I always gave with a joyful heart, and because of that, I have lived in complete financial freedom. There is so much joy in this way of living, and that is what I want to share with you in this book.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
These are the strategies—the key principles in the Bible—that help us grow in faith.
To have faith or to strengthen our faith, we first need to meet God and experience Him. But this is a journey that can take some time. God is alive, and He will meet us in His own way and time. He wants to show us His promises, His goodness, and His blessings. He wants to give us motivation, joy, peace, and salvation. When we allow Him to work in our lives, our faith will grow naturally.
With faith comes joy, a positive attitude, guidance, motivation, and strength. This helps us live according to God’s will—not because we feel forced to obey laws, but because we are inspired and motivated by God Himself.
I once told my daughter, that if possible, she should do these five things every day:
📖 READ – Study God’s Word
🙏 PRAY – Talk to God
👂 HEAR – Listen to His voice
💖 GIVE – Be generous
🗣️ TELL – Share His goodness
If we can do these things out of joy, they will become something we love, not a burden. This will lead to success, fulfillment, and positive change—not only in our own lives but also in the lives of those around us.
Any message for our readers
I receive messages from my readers, and they tell me that this book is about much more than just money. While we focus on money in the book, the bigger goal is about you and God—being together and finding happiness. If you want to be someone who gives, you must first have something to give. You cannot give if you have nothing. When Jesus told us, ‘Give, and you shall receive,’ the first step—giving—implies that you must first have. How can you give if you have nothing? God already wants you to have, so that you can give, and in return, you will receive again. It’s a beautiful cycle: God blesses you, you give, you receive, and the cycle continues.
Thank you so much, Bard, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
