La’Tosha Aikens is the author of a moving devotional titled God’s Word In My Breath. She offers a heartfelt exploration of Scripture’s relevance in daily life, weaving personal anecdotes and relatable insights into each reflection. Her devotionals speak softly yet powerfully—addressing the core questions so many people carry in their hearts. Readers often mention how comforting it is to discover that they’re not alone in their faith journey or the challenges they face.
A Path from Private Journals to Public Impact
La’Tosha’s early writing took shape in countless notebooks. She would jot down thoughts, prayers, and moments of inspiration that emerged during her quiet times. At first, she believed these reflections were meant for her eyes only. Then she recognized a subtle prompt stirring within—an impression that perhaps others might benefit from her experiences. One day, she casually read a snippet to a lady who became emotional, insisting that the words felt like they were written just for her. That conversation became a turning point. She realized God might be using her personal notes to uplift and guide people wrestling with similar uncertainties.
Encouraged by these discoveries, La’Tosha began shaping her reflections into a devotional format. She titled it God’s Word In My Breath to emphasize how Scripture can permeate every thought, every sigh, and every hope. She wrote with honesty—never pretending she had everything figured out. Instead, she acknowledges the messy parts of faith while celebrating the moments of triumph that remind believers of God’s steadfast presence.
Exploring the Kaleidoscope of Emotions
This devotional underscores the complexity of human emotions. La’Tosha understands that faith doesn’t magically erase fear or sadness. She points out that joy can coincide with heartbreak, and that it’s okay to feel gratitude one moment and frustration the next. She has walked that road herself—embracing the truth that God sees every facet of the human heart.
When she speaks of these emotional layers, readers sense empathy in her words. She never suggests individuals should bury their struggles. Instead, she highlights the value of bringing every thought to the Lord. La’Tosha trusts that God’s kindness extends to doubts, insecurities, and untamed worries. By sharing personal instances when she prayed while feeling conflicted, she encourages believers to acknowledge their own emotional twists without shame. Even in tears, she insists, God is near, offering comfort that’s both tender and powerful.
Her candor often resonates with those who’ve felt overlooked or misunderstood. Several readers remark on how relieved they are to see raw honesty on the page—an invitation to breathe and remember they’re not alone in their multifaceted feelings.
Encouraging Simple Acts of Devotion
La’Tosha’s approach to faith is disarmingly simple. She doesn’t demand grand gestures or complicated rituals. Instead, she suggests brief, purposeful pauses. A verse read before breakfast… a two-minute prayer after a tense phone call… a moment of silent gratitude at the close of a busy day. In God’s Word In My Breath, she stresses that spiritual growth can happen bit by bit—through ongoing conversations with God.
She also champions the idea of personal reflection, believing that sometimes the most meaningful revelations occur in stillness. Whether journaling a few sentences or repeating a comforting Scripture, she encourages believers to look for God’s voice in unexpected places. She sees these daily touches of faith as seeds that take root over time, gradually transforming hearts from the inside out.
Her gentle guidance assures readers they don’t have to be spiritual giants to encounter divine peace. She insists God’s grace meets believers right where they are—tired, excited, wary, or hopeful. She believes it’s often in humble moments, when nobody else is watching, that God quietly imparts clarity and strength.
Walking Forward with Renewed Purpose
Ultimately, La’Tosha hopes God’s Word In My Breath becomes more than just a book on a nightstand. She envisions it as a companion that walks alongside readers—reminding them to trust God’s faithfulness in each breath they take. She prays that individuals who engage with her devotionals will recognize how far love can reach, even when life feels uncertain.
Her work extends an invitation to anyone seeking renewed purpose. She shows that faith isn’t about being flawless—it’s about being willing to open one’s heart and let God speak. From that posture, spiritual growth often blossoms in surprising ways. She encourages readers to remember that even a faint glimmer of hope can light the darkest corner of doubt.
La’Tosha Aikens remains dedicated to nurturing faith wherever she goes. Her storytelling conveys a calm, steady confidence that God truly cares for every beating heart, every yearning soul. Through her honest reflections and relatable examples, she leaves a quiet but firm assurance: God’s Word is as close as the air we breathe, waiting to infuse hope into every moment.
We had the privilege of interviewing La’Tosha Aikens. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please tell us about your devotional book.
The writing of this devotional has been a process for me. I thought I was writing devotionals for myself daily and didn’t realize that I was writing for others until I heard God say clearly, “Do you really think you are the only one dealing with these issues and asking me these questions?” For a while, I said, “No, God, there is no way that this is going to happen,” and I sat and thought to myself, “Are you truly hearing the voice of God?” Confirmation came when I was speaking with a lady and pulled out one of my journals. The lady said, “Did you write this for me?” As we both sat and cried, I looked up and said, “Father, I hear you.”
Often, we see a smile and assume it signals happiness, or we see tears and immediately think of sadness. These emotions seem so clear-cut, don’t they? But what if I told you that you could smile and weep at the same time? That you could feel grateful and sad simultaneously? Or perhaps experience jealousy and shame in a single moment? This, my friend, is what I call complex emotions.
We often fail to recognize the depth of our emotional lives. We can feel more than one emotion at once, whether directed at a person or a situation. Sometimes, those emotions are contradictory—joy and sorrow, hope and frustration—and yet they coexist within us, shaping our experience. The beauty of this complexity is that, even in our emotional turmoil, God has given us grace to bear more than one emotion at a time.
The challenge, however, is learning how to process these emotions. What matters most is how we allow ourselves to sit with them and work through them. I remember a season in my own life where I experienced this profound emotional complexity. I was filled with joy as new opportunities opened before me, yet there was a deep sadness as I watched old chapters close. I was grateful that God was guiding me through it all, even though the process was difficult. It was a time when my emotions seemed to be pulling me in different directions, but I chose to be still, to breathe, and to let God show me how to navigate it all.
This book is born from that experience. It’s a journey through the many emotions we encounter on a day-to-day basis, and it’s an invitation for you to take a moment to pause and reflect on the emotions you may be carrying. The purpose of this devotional is not to simplify the emotional journey, but to give you space and time to recognize that God’s Word, combined with your breath, has the power to transform your perspective on whatever emotions you’re dealing with right now.
As you journey through these pages, my hope is that you will gain a deeper understanding of your own emotional complexity and allow God’s grace to guide you in processing your feelings. Whether you’re navigating joy, sorrow, frustration, or peace—know that God is with you, and He is big enough to carry it all.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
What has helped me become successful on this journey is learning to listen to the still, small voice of God and harken to the call. My prayer is that you have found something here that speaks to your heart and draws you closer to God. Whether it was a truth to hold on to, a challenge to reflect on, or a reminder of His love and faithfulness, may these words continue to resonate in your life as you go forward.
Any message for our readers.
Remember, each day is a new opportunity to grow in your relationship with God, and He is always with you, guiding and strengthening you. Keep seeking His presence, and know that He is doing a work in you that will bear fruit in His perfect time.
Be encouraged, be brave, and continue to walk by faith.
Thank you so much, La’Tosha Aikens, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
