For those seeking a fresh and heartfelt superhero narrative, Kyle Durant’s Axiom offers a compelling blend of action, emotion, and profound themes. As the first part of the Axiom Trilogy, this novel combines elements inspired by anime, cartoons, and video games, all wrapped in a message of kindness and a quest for a better world.
Dustin’s Awakening: An Altruist with Extraordinary Abilities
The story centers around Dustin, a college student who feels disillusioned by the state of humanity. Haunted by his past and saddened by the selfishness he observes daily, Dustin’s sole desire is to help others. His life takes an unexpected turn when he wakes up one morning stuck to his apartment ceiling. This bizarre event marks the beginning of his transformation, as he discovers that Earth herself has endowed him with incredible energy and ki-based superpowers.
These newfound abilities open Dustin’s eyes to a reality where planets are alive and possess their own physical forms. However, with great power comes great responsibility. Dustin learns of an ancient evil predating the galaxy, and he must confront not only this cosmic threat but also personal demons from his past.
Meet Rachel and Ryan: Allies in a Cosmic Battle
Dustin’s journey is enriched by the presence of two significant characters: Rachel and Ryan.
Rachel, his love interest, is far from a typical damsel in distress. Independent and headstrong, she carries her own hidden pains but refuses to let them define her. Rachel stands toe-to-toe with both human adversaries and superpowered antagonists, showcasing strength and resilience that add depth to her character.
Ryan, Dustin’s best friend, brings a mix of emotional awkwardness and brilliant intellect to the story. His scientific genius is unparalleled, enabling him to access the multiverse, create advanced androids, and develop sophisticated weaponry. Ryan’s inventions and technological prowess often prove crucial in their battles, and his humorous demeanor provides a light-hearted balance to the intense moments.
Kyle Durant: Writing from the Heart
Author Kyle Durant pours his personal experiences into Axiom, infusing the narrative with authenticity and emotion. Having faced challenges early in life, he shares Dustin’s altruism and the sorrow that can accompany a desire to make the world better. Kyle’s motivation for writing this story stems from a wish to reach out to others who have felt pain or isolation. He wants readers to know they’re not alone or crazy for wanting to see goodness prevail. His message is one of hope: that despite the darkness, there’s still good in the world, and together, we can change it for the better.
A Homage to Anime and Beyond
Axiom pays tribute to the dynamic energy found in anime, cartoons, and video games. Fans of these genres will appreciate the intense fight scenes, unique ki-based powers, and martial arts sequences that bring the action to life. The novel doesn’t shy away from epic battles featuring beam struggles and inventive techniques, all set against the backdrop of personal and planetary stakes.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Please tell us about your book.
Axiom combines anime, cartoon, and video game-inspired moments wrapped in a kind and caring message. The story has humanitarian and altruistic themes and fights for a better world inside the book and out.
Axiom is about Dustin, an altruistic college student who hates what his species has become. Due to his past, he only wants to help people, but he sees the opposite every day. Then, one day, he wakes up stuck to the ceiling of his college apartment and discovers the planet herself has bestowed upon him literal energy and ki-based superpowers.
He learns that the Earth is alive like us, has its own physical body, and other planets are in a similar situation. However, this newfound way to help people, and change the world for the better, comes with a warning of an evil older than the galaxy and a personal demon from Dustin’s past.
Please tell us about your journey.
I did not have the best start to life and experienced significant hardship along the way. This made me empathetic and made me want to help anyone I could while recognizing the hardship and corruption in the world. I especially grew exasperated at how society was not serving everyone and how people in power were making things worse.
Weirdly enough, as a kid, I scoffed at the idea of writing a book. It seemed like too much work and something I could never hope to do. Then, in 2014, I was at a job fresh out of college, where I had plenty of free time. I was reading one of my favorite authors at the time (D.J. MacHale) and one of his forwards mentioned to “write what you know.” That simple phrase inspired a passion I didn’t know I had, and it led me on an almost decade-long journey of writing not just one book but three in the same story. Finally, after several jobs, children, a mortgage, and that wonderful Covid fiasco, I got the first part in the Axiom trilogy published earlier this month, November 2024.
It’s kind of funny in a way as well because I didn’t think people would want a story that looks to a better future at first. Until a certain U.S. event happened around the same time I published my book, and I knew I had to continue this dream.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I feel that my strategies were just more of who I am. I wrote what I knew, and that included a metric ton of anime/cartoons I watched, manga I read, and video games I played. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on how you want to look at it, I also knew hardship, pain, and a strong desire to help people.
Any message for our readers
Never give up on trying to make the world a better place. No matter how hard it is.
Thank you so much, Kyle, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
