We had the privilege of interviewing Eddie Valiant. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi Eddie, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I produce and DJ Hip Hop Music for various Hip Hop Artists. I am working mainly with my best friend, OTB Yung Dash. I was born in Tampa, Florida, and was raised in Florida, and I live here to this day. I’m proud to have been born and raised in the Southeast United States, and I try to exemplify that in my music. I grew up hearing my father play country and southern rock. I was introduced to hip-hop by listening to artists such as the Beastie Boys, Outkast, Three 6 Mafia, and a majority of southern hip-hop pioneers. I started producing music at the age of 13 and began learning the art of turntablism at 14.
Please tell us about your music album, ‘Welcome to the Swamp.’
My upcoming album is my debut album and drops on August 2nd, 2024. The entire album is in collaboration with lyricist OTB Yung Dash. It is heavily influenced by Dirty South Hip Hop. Although it is mainly a Hip Hop album, it has a variety of different styles that hope to captivate a variety of new listeners. It is being released under our label A.P.E. MUZIK, LLC.
Please share your journey with our readers.
Aside from my parents separating when I was at a young age, my childhood was pretty decent. I did struggle a lot with anxiety as a child. I had a fear of attending school, and not because I just disliked it. But fear of rejection, being bullied, being embarrassed or humiliated. I don’t know what brought that fear on initially, but it worsened as I began to get bullied in middle school. I rarely attended school throughout my childhood, but I still managed to obtain my High School diploma. Things were great for a few years after high school; I was DJing at clubs and partying often until I was introduced to drugs. Addiction consumed me for eight years of my life. Starting at the age of 20 and stopping at 28. I was addicted to painkillers, sedatives, and eventually methamphetamine. It made it impossible to progress with my music during that time. But I picked it up as soon as I was able to get clean. I’ve really put in an immense amount of effort honing my craft in my sobriety. I now own a 60 man substance abuse facility with a recording studio on site. I meet talented new artists all the time from my clients who come to get clean. It’s very rewarding.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Perseverance is the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about my strategies. Not letting anything get in my way of my dream and my passion.
