Ann L. Thompson, the creative mind behind The Unexpected Journey of Little Pine, brings a lifetime of storytelling and community service to her work. Having retired from a career spanning more than 45 years in corporate and nonprofit communications, she finally found the time to polish this holiday gem that had been tucked away in her files for years. Thompson holds an M.A. in communication from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a B.A. in communication from the College of St. Catherine (now St. Catherine University) in St. Paul, MN.

Throughout her career, she devoted herself to service in many ways, including volunteering with her registered therapy Sheltie dogs at senior facilities, children’s hospitals, and even the Minneapolis St. Paul Airport. She also explored her passion for music as a singer-songwriter hobbyist, and she serves as a registered ULCA minister. Now, in her retirement, she is focused on bringing her creative endeavors to a wider audience. This heartwarming story demonstrates the depth of her compassion and her flair for weaving gentle life lessons into simple narratives.

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please tell us about your journey.

I wrote my first draft many years ago. Every Christmas, I’d dig it out and think, “I really should get this out!” Time was always an issue. I retired last year and finally had the gift of time to work on it. I was concerned that it was too late in the Christmas season to release it, but then I learned that “A Christmas Carol” was published on December 19, 1842. So, with a nod to Charles Dickens, I figured this was the year. It’s a quick read, and I’ve heard from more than a few adult readers that it’s ideal for adults.
