‘The Count’s Dark Threat’ by Lyck Liss: A Story with Heart and Imagination

Stepping into a New World: The Count’s Dark Threat

Fantasy has always given children a doorway into adventure, and Lyck Liss opens that door wide with The Count’s Dark Threat, the first book in the Little Beings of Light series. With a blend of magic, mystery, and heartfelt lessons, this middle-grade fantasy promises to capture young imaginations while encouraging values that matter in everyday life.

A Galaxy at the Edge of Darkness

The story begins in a faraway galaxy where two great forces, Endless Darkness and The Almighty Light, are locked in a struggle that shapes the balance of existence. When the sinister Count Daark rises with a threat that could tip the scales forever, it’s not seasoned warriors who answer the call—it’s schoolchildren. Ordinary kids are swept into extraordinary danger, and their courage becomes the only shield standing between light and destruction.

The journey takes readers through stormy skies, enchanted landscapes, and perilous encounters. At the center of this quest is a mystery tied to Lou, a playful pup with lightning-fast paws and tricolored fur. What seems like a small detail—a heart-shaped mark on the puppy’s coat—quickly grows into a revelation about destiny. With every twist of the plot, the children must rely on wit, determination, and the strength of their friendships to keep hope alive.

Heroes Young Readers Will Love

One of the book’s charms lies in its unforgettable characters. Each one brings something special to the adventure, and together they form a group that young readers will root for from the start.

  • Blue Litleone is thirteen, curious, and thoughtful, haunted by dreams of his missing father. His sharp mind and calm presence make him a natural leader.

  • Dee Litleone, his younger cousin, shines with artistic talent, intelligence, and a heart that sees beauty everywhere. At just eleven, she’s already remarkable.

  • Singo Litleone, only seven, reminds readers that bravery isn’t measured by age. With violet eyes and boundless energy, she dives into danger alongside others.

  • Miya Twill comes with a dramatic backstory of separation, survival, and newfound courage with The Koala Circus Group. Her determination adds grit to the team.

  • Papelle Gaal bursts onto the page as a ball of energy with wild pigtails and sneakers that hold a surprising secret. Mischief and loyalty make her unforgettable.

  • Cody Twill, spirited and strong, stands out with a mix of quirks, scars, and boundless drive, showing that heroes come in all forms.

The cast expands with magical companions like the Rainbow Butterfly, carrying love and mystery, and of course, Lou, the puppy chosen by powerful guardians to protect life itself. Together, this group is diverse, resilient, and relatable. Children reading the book will see reflections of themselves in these characters’ fears, hopes, and strengths.

Lessons Woven into Adventure

While the plot is fast-paced and filled with magical battles, hidden within it is a foundation of values. The book introduces the Aria Sagin Values of Humanity, which give the story a heart as bright as its fantasy setting. These values encourage kindness, caring for animals, defending those who can’t defend themselves, developing talents, protecting the environment, appreciating family and friends, exercising body and mind, understanding others, and including everyone.

These aren’t abstract rules; they come alive as the children face Count Daark’s threats. When they protect one another, show courage despite fear, or care for the world around them, readers see the values in action. Parents and teachers can use these themes as talking points, making the book not only an exciting story but also a tool for guiding children toward compassion and responsibility.

We had the privilege of interviewing Lyck Liss. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hello, essentially, I am a storyteller, and it has been a big dream of mine to bring stories to the children of the world that captivate and inspire them in their solitude and in the company of their loved ones.

Please tell us about your journey.

Writing has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember. It all began with a very ambitious (and not quite finished) whodunit novel in first grade. I believe it was my beagle, Lykke, who inspired me to create a book series. I vividly recall the moment it all started in a bookshop located in Trafalgar Square in London, UK. During that visit, my beagle somehow sniffed out a Children’s Writers and Authors Yearbook 2012 from one of the shelves. That was my try-a-ha moment! Since then, I have navigated through countless drafts, celebrated tiny victories, and embraced the wonderful process of writing children’s stories. Along the way, I’ve teamed up with superb collaborators like the illustrating team Dazzling Media and editor Kerry Plume, who helped bring my visions to life.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I believe that writing stories and content you truly feel passionate about sharing should be at the centre of your journey. Consistency and maintaining a dedicated writing schedule are essential—being a committed vessel for the story that unfolds within you, nurturing it by understanding your characters, worlds, and the events that materialize in your manuscript. Showing appreciation for those you collaborate with is also crucial, as their support brings your vision to life. Additionally, testing your story ideas with the target reader community is an invaluable step to ensure your work resonates and connects with your audience.

Any message for our readers?

Keep reading, dreaming, and believing in the power of stories to inspire change and bring us together. Take good care of yourselves and the ones you love, nurture your interests and most important of all… have fun!

Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
