Jesica Oteruelo Lopez Inspires a Powerful Inner Journey With ‘Ascending is Remembering’ and ‘Remembering Is Being’

Questions about identity often emerge during periods of change. Who are people beneath their roles, expectations, memories, and long-held beliefs? Jesica Oteruelo Lopez explores these questions through two deeply personal books shaped by years of travel, therapeutic practice, spiritual inquiry, and life experience.

Ascending is Remembering: A Journey Back to Yourself and Remembering Is Being: Releasing What You Believed and Discovering What You Are are the first two parts of a planned trilogy. Across both works, Jesica invites readers into an evolving exploration of awareness, healing, compassion, and personal freedom.

Stories That Encourage Self-Inquiry

Ascending is Remembering begins from the idea that personal growth can involve rediscovering something that already exists within a person. Jesica approaches this theme through her own experiences, giving the book the intimacy of memoir alongside a broader exploration of human emotions.

Its seven chapters move through awakening, identity, separation, vulnerability, emptiness, compassion, and returning home. These subjects are connected through Jesica’s reflections on the experiences that influenced the way she came to understand herself.

Her life has followed an unusual route. Born in the Basque Country, Jesica became an entrepreneur at nineteen and eventually led a foundry as its only woman. Later chapters brought personal upheaval, travel, spiritual exploration, and professional training across different countries.

India and Thailand became important places of learning, while experiences throughout Europe contributed further perspectives. Eventually, Lanzarote became home.

Readers are encouraged to bring their own experiences into Ascending is Remembering. Self-inquiry questions appear at the end of the chapters, providing opportunities to consider identity, memories, emotional patterns, and the stories people carry about themselves.

The result feels personal because Jesica writes from within the subjects she explores. Her experiences provide the starting point, while readers are given space to consider their own.

What Happens After Awareness Arrives?

The second book, Remembering Is Being, moves the conversation forward. Awareness can reveal patterns and beliefs, yet recognizing them is only one stage of an ongoing process.

Jesica examines what living with that awareness can look like.

Love, friendship, solitude, loss, relationships, identity, and letting go become central themes. The book considers the moments when old reactions return and familiar emotional patterns appear again. These experiences become opportunities for observation and conscious choice.

One question sits close to the heart of the book: Who are people when they stop defining themselves through everything they once believed they were?

Across seven chapters, Jesica explores that inquiry through personal storytelling and reflection. Seven practical cards accompany the material, encouraging readers to carry what they discover into daily experience.

This gives the two books a natural sequence. The first focuses on remembering and finding a route inward. The second considers how someone might begin living from that recognition.

A third volume is currently being developed to continue and complete the trilogy.

From the Basque Country to Lanzarote

Jesica’s writing is closely tied to the life she has created outside the page. She is a holistic therapist and founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, where her work includes intuitive massage, energy therapies, Bhakti Yoga, expressive movement, and energy harmonization.

Her connection with Lanzarote reaches beyond her profession. Nearly a decade ago, she recognized the island as a place where she wanted to build a different kind of life.

The Atlantic Ocean became part of that existence. Jesica bought a boat and has spent years developing a relationship with the sea and the surrounding environment. Some of her therapeutic sessions take place aboard the boat.

Her personal routines include ocean bathing at sunrise, meditation, silence, movement, and barefoot walks. These practices reflect the same curiosity that runs through her writing.

Before Lanzarote, Jesica had established a home and business in the Basque Country. She eventually followed an internal sense that her life needed to change. Leaving familiar surroundings opened a period of travel and exploration that ultimately influenced both her therapeutic work and her books.

Writing required another kind of courage. Jesica had spent years wondering whether her story was worth sharing. When she finally began putting her experiences into words, subjects such as guilt, hidden wounds, silence, healing, and identity became part of the process.

Beyond the Familiar Story

Through her first two books, Jesica creates room for readers to examine themselves without demanding immediate answers. Her developing trilogy treats self-discovery as something lived gradually through relationships, choices, uncertainty, and ordinary days.

As the third book takes shape, the journey continues toward an idea central to Jesica’s work: releasing an old story about oneself may create space to recognize what has quietly remained underneath it all.

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is Jesica Oteruelo Lopez. I am an author, holistic therapist, and founder of Lavanda Zen Massage in Lanzarote, Spain. I offer intuitive massage and energy therapies, teach Bhakti Yoga and expressive movement, and facilitate energy harmonization sessions.

Part of my work takes place on my boat, a very special space where I offer massage and therapy sessions. Writing is another expression of my journey. After years of doubting whether my story was worth telling, I found the courage to write about life, healing, silence, guilt, hidden wounds, and the journey back to ourselves.

Please tell us about your journey.

I once had a home and business in the Basque Country, but something inside me was asking for change. I chose to leave, travel, and follow my intuition. That journey eventually brought me to Lanzarote, an island that still speaks to me every day.

Here I created a new life, bought a boat, developed my therapeutic work, and finally began writing. My experiences became Ascending is Remembering and later Remembering is Being, the first two books of a trilogy, with a third currently in development.

My journey has taught me that sometimes we find ourselves only after having the courage to leave behind what we thought we had to be.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Action. I make plans, but I trust my intuition. I have learned to believe in myself, face fear, take risks, make mistakes, and keep moving. If one path does not work, I choose another. Success, for me, is not about avoiding mistakes; it is about learning, adapting, and continuing.

Any message for our readers?

Life is beautiful, a gift and a blessing. One of our greatest freedoms is the freedom to choose. We cannot always choose what happens, but we can choose how we experience it.

Whatever moment you are living, be present. Choose your attitude, choose yourself, and trust your journey. Sometimes what we call a mistake today becomes something we understand very differently tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Jesica Oteruelo Lopez, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
