Secrets, Science, and Sacrifice
What if the hero you’ve admired your entire life turned out to be something completely different—something dark and monstrous? This question fuels the thrilling narrative of K. Peterson’s electrifying novel, S.C.E.L.. Peterson transports readers into an unsettling yet captivating world filled with family secrets, medical mysteries, and ethical dilemmas that will leave you questioning everything.
A Promising Beginning, A Shocking Reality
Leander Stanton, affectionately known as Leo, steps into his residency at Stanton General full of ambition and dreams. After all, it’s a prestigious hospital carrying his family’s illustrious name, and Leo hopes it will help him reconnect with his distant father. From the outside, the facility appears flawless, renowned for groundbreaking treatments and particularly known for its revolutionary medical breakthrough, “the elixir.”
But Leo’s idealism quickly shatters when he realizes there’s more to Stanton General than meets the eye. Behind its pristine exterior lies a network of unsettling secrets: children are mysteriously disappearing, patients are subjected to manipulation, and Leo’s own family seems deeply involved. As Leo peels back layers, each discovery grows more alarming, ultimately leading him to S.C.E.L., a covert program whose true purpose blurs the line between healing and harm.
Peterson expertly weaves suspense, making every revelation pulse with tension. Her narrative is rich with intrigue and suspicion, building into a slow-burning mystery that grips readers from beginning to end.
Exploring Ethical Boundaries
S.C.E.L. isn’t just a thriller—it’s an exploration of ethical boundaries, familial obligations, and the dark side of medical innovation. Peterson deftly tackles complex themes, posing challenging questions about what humanity sacrifices in the pursuit of progress. The stark reality uncovered by Leo challenges his core beliefs and forces him into uncomfortable positions.
Leo Stanton isn’t your usual protagonist. Rather than heroic certainty, he embodies relatable human uncertainty. Readers feel his internal conflict—between loyalty to family, duty to patients, and the haunting truth he can’t ignore. His character development is nuanced, resonant, and engaging, drawing readers deeper into the story’s emotional and moral complexity.
Unveiling the Layers of Stanton General
The heart-pounding narrative moves at an expertly controlled pace. Peterson’s writing brings Stanton General vividly to life, from the gleaming corridors that hide sinister operations to the whispered conversations hinting at dangerous secrets. Each layer Leo uncovers adds to the mystery, keeping readers guessing about who he can trust and where the next betrayal will come from.
Peterson excels at blending science fiction elements with realistic ethical dilemmas. Her vivid descriptions and tight storytelling ensure that the science never feels distant or implausible. Instead, the terrifying scenarios portrayed in the hospital’s secret labs feel dangerously possible, increasing the book’s chilling effect.
Behind the Pen: The Heart of K. Peterson
The authenticity of S.C.E.L. stems from Peterson’s deeply personal investment in her characters and story. Writing under her pen name, Kim has nurtured this story since her teenage years, turning youthful determination into a thrilling literary reality. Her passion, creativity, and genuine care infuse every character and plot twist.
Kim describes her writing journey as a path of personal discovery, resilience, and dedication. It’s clear she poured her soul into creating characters who resonate with readers on a profound emotional level. Each character in S.C.E.L. carries elements of Kim’s own experiences, reflections, and aspirations, lending them depth and relatability that is rare and moving.
Reading S.C.E.L. isn’t just about enjoying a gripping thriller—it’s also about connecting with its author. Kim’s heart beats strongly through every chapter, each word echoing her own journey toward self-belief and creative fulfillment.

Hi, it’s great to have you with us today! Please share about your book with our readers.
Hello, my book is a sci-fi thriller about a young doctor named Leander—Leo—who starts his residency at his family’s elite hospital, thinking he’s finally stepping into the legacy he’s always wanted to be part of. But the deeper he gets into the system, the more he realizes things aren’t what they seem. The hospital has a perfect image, but underneath that, there are secrets—and not just shady business deals or internal politics. Serious, disturbing stuff that’s been hidden from the public for decades. And it’s all tied to his family.
Leo starts pulling at threads, and what unravels changes everything—not just about his career, but about who he is and how he came to be. There are twists, betrayals, and some really messed-up science. And yeah, it gets dark. If you like slow-burn unraveling, conspiracy, and characters who are forced to question everything they believe in, this book’s probably for you.
Please tell us about your journey.
What I want to say is that this journey took me a very, very long time—but the years I spent writing it were nothing compared to the number of times I rewrote this story. Before I ever settled on this final draft and manuscript, I almost quit entirely. There were so many nights I cried to my friends, telling them how I thought this story was trash. But deep down, I still had so much faith in it.
And finally, one day, Leander’s story just… clicked. It formed in my mind clearly, and I finally had a real direction. The original idea for this book was actually meant to be part of a series—I had the heart of it already mapped out in my mind. But to set everything in motion, I realized I had to start with Leo. He’s the foundation. And let me tell you… he’s been a pain in my butt.
But now, I’ve grown to love him. I know him. He feels like a friend to me, and I hope that somewhere in this book, you find a character you connect with too.
All I really wanted to do was create a piece of art. Something that people—especially those who don’t usually read—might pick up and actually enjoy. Before I ever fell in love with reading, all it took was one book to hook me. That one book opened the door for so many others. And maybe… maybe this could be that book for someone else. If it is, then I’ve done my job.
Any message for our readers?
The best message I can offer anyone reading this right now is: don’t give up. Even when it feels like you should. I’ve never had any formal writing training—unless you count my measly two years of dicking around in community college (with no degree obtained). The only actual writing course I ever took was Writing 122.
Everything else? I learned by reading. So many books.
I designed the book cover. I edited the manuscript—so yes, you’ll probably spot a few errors here and there. But that’s okay. The point is: sometimes you have to do the thing for yourself. Maybe someday I’ll have the funds to polish it up and smooth out all the creases. But right now, this story means everything to me.
And despite its flaws, it’s perfect to me, just like Leander. And hopefully… like Leander will be to you.
Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
