Hi, thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

I’m the author of An Eventful Summer: My Romantic (and other) Adventures at Camp Elwan, Vermont. Before stepping into the world of fiction, I spent much of my career as a transportation and energy analyst, writing more reports and technical papers than I could ever count. It was rewarding work, but creative writing gave me the chance to explore a completely different side of myself.

Writing An Eventful Summer was an incredibly fulfilling experience. I honestly believe everyone should try writing something creative at least once. It does not matter whether it gets published or who reads it.

These days, I split my time between California and another place I like to call “elsewhere,” and I’m already working on my second novel, which takes a much deeper look at the complexities of a relationship. It’s an exciting new chapter, and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey as a storyteller.

I have spent most of my life as an environmental researcher, focused on the impact of transportation and energy systems on climate. It took most of my brain to do that work, but now (though still working at my day job), I feel I want to unleash my “right brain,” my creative side. I found writing this novel to be very liberating, and very different from technical writing. I chose a topic related to my youth, but hopefully it will resonate with others who may not have had the exact experience of a sleep-away summer camp. The point is that even in that environment, life can get complicated, and the coming-of-age aspects are quite central to it.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I worked away in the same field for a long time, with different shifts but staying the course. I hope that as a fiction writer I can continue and refine my craft. I think this is a good and interesting story, with relatable characters, but I also plan to write more books, creating more complex worlds. Though maybe simpler is better. We’ll see.

Any message for our readers?

I hope you give this a try; I think it’s a great summertime read. I should mention that while there is romance, there is also a lot of tension associated with women having to deal with men at a number of levels, and even some legal thriller type aspects. Hard to imagine for a “light” read about summer camp, but there it is. You’ll need to read it to see how all these pieces fit together.
