Every great fantasy adventure begins with a world worth exploring and characters whose destinies remain uncertain. Steven Madonia delivers both in ‘The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth‘, an imaginative debut novel where dangerous competitions, mysterious artifacts, and extraordinary magical abilities create the foundation for an exciting new fantasy saga.

Enter Tetran, Where Victory Can Change Everything
Imagine a world where winning a competition could grant unimaginable wealth, political influence, and entry into territories hidden from ordinary citizens. In Tetran, these extraordinary privileges await the champions of annual trials that attract competitors from numerous races and backgrounds. The rewards are tempting, and earning them requires surviving challenges where every decision could carry life-changing consequences. Readers can find this 288-page debut, published on October 25, 2026, in Kindle, Paperback and Hardcover editions on Amazon.
The competition draws individuals whose ambitions extend far beyond personal glory. Some enter because their families depend on them, hoping that victory will provide financial security and a better future. Others seek access to forbidden knowledge, legendary treasures, and powerful artifacts whose secrets remain beyond the reach of ordinary people. These competing motivations establish an atmosphere of uncertainty, where every participant carries a story worth discovering.
Steven brings this fascinating setting to life through three central characters, Rin, Yot, and Nomir. Initially strangers, they arrive with different experiences, personal convictions, and reasons for confronting Tetran’s dangerous trials. Their circumstances eventually demand cooperation, placing them in situations where trust becomes essential for survival. As their individual journeys intersect, readers encounter an engaging exploration of friendship, emotional vulnerability, and the challenges of understanding people with unfamiliar perspectives.
Magic plays a significant role in the world Steven has created, particularly through an intricate supernatural force called aethra. This mysterious energy represents the manifestation of an individual’s will, with each person’s aethra displaying a color associated with their soul’s alignment. The concept establishes a meaningful relationship between magical abilities and personal identity, allowing supernatural power to reflect the emotional and philosophical dimensions of the characters.
Individuals capable of manipulating this energy, known as aethra weavers, possess remarkable potential. Some can summon phantasmal creations, while others develop extraordinary strength or enhanced perception that influences their abilities in dangerous situations. The diversity of these powers introduces exciting possibilities for combat, exploration, and unexpected discoveries. Readers gradually learn how the magical system operates as its complexity expands throughout the narrative.
Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of aethra is its connection to personal transformation. As characters develop emotionally, confront difficult experiences, or struggle with their moral choices, their abilities can evolve alongside them. This relationship gives the magical system an additional layer of significance, encouraging readers to consider how personal growth and internal conflict might influence extraordinary power. It also provides a compelling foundation for the increasingly philosophical questions that Steven intends to explore throughout the saga.
A Haunting Past and a Quest Beyond the Trials
Among the novel’s central characters, Rin carries a particularly compelling motivation rooted in her troubled history. Her journey involves recovering the legendary Tablets of Tetran, mysterious objects whose importance extends beyond the immediate competition. The emotional weight of her past influences her determination, introducing questions about the experiences that shape people’s decisions and the sacrifices they might make to pursue something deeply meaningful.

The developing relationship between Rin, Yot, and Nomir further enriches the adventure. Their contrasting worldviews create opportunities for disagreement, understanding, and gradual cooperation as they encounter life-threatening circumstances. Through these interactions, Steven explores themes involving trauma, trust, love, and the difficult pursuit of power. The characters’ emotional burdens add depth to their choices, giving readers reasons to become invested in their individual struggles and shared journey.
Published by Sulnir Publications, ‘The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth’ introduces a fantasy universe with considerable potential for expansion. Its combination of dangerous challenges, ancient mysteries, and evolving relationships creates an inviting experience for enthusiasts of character-driven fantasy storytelling.

We had the privilege of interviewing Steven Madonia. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Could you please introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
I’ve been involved with the arts for as long as I can remember! I love drawing, writing, and music. As a musician by trade, I’ve learned to apply that dedication to my writing ventures. I believe in honest, thrilling fantasy that respects the reader’s time and validates emotional resonance.
Could you tell us the story or journey behind your work?
When I was younger, I used to write short stories in my notebooks whether they were little blurbs or even songs and poetry. I discovered, after dealing with personal challenges in my life, that writing fiction was a way to bring my honest experience of life into my work, including both the love and the pain. That for me was both therapeutic and personally fulfilling. Now, I write all the time!
What strategies or principles have helped you?
The first thing was to get out of my own way when drafting. Let the story take form with the ideas I have. I create world maps first before even writing and ask myself, what kind of economy does this city have? What is their culture and history? Do they have long-standing enemies or allies? That sort of thinking has become integral to my writing process, allowing me to develop my characters and their world to a much greater degree. From there, I let my characters lead the way. I often tell myself “Design the setting, imagine a set piece, put the characters in a box, shake it up, and see what happens!” For me, that produces results that are structured, but at times even surprising for me as an author!
What is your message for readers?
As an artist, it is so easy to be concerned about inner fears and anxieties. I’ve spent many years living in a self-imposed set of constraints that limited what I could make in terms of scope and authenticity. This book for me was deeply liberating as I was able to remove those boundaries and finally create the art that resonated with me. Magic and mysteries. Character trauma and banter. Fear and worry. Faith and hope. The philosophies that I’ve come to understand about love, life, and the cost of power. I hope you enjoy the emotional journey of The Tablets of Tetran: The Phantom Labyrinth as much as I enjoyed writing it.
Thank you so much, Steven, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
