A Fantasy Novel Where Truth Challenges Tradition
Epic fantasy often thrives on grand battles and magical spectacles, yet some of the most memorable stories are built around people confronting the systems that shape their lives. Lithina (Songs of Estana Book 1) by Cameron Crafton takes that approach and delivers a compelling narrative filled with political tension, emotional depth, and powerful questions about identity and belonging.
As the first installment in the Songs of Estana series, the novel introduces readers to a kingdom admired for its beauty while quietly concealing generations of suffering beneath its polished exterior.
Two Lives Separated by a Kingdom’s Rules
The story follows Callen Rusk, a young man whose future was determined long before he was born. As a member of the Disens, he carries the Black Mark, a symbol of inherited disgrace that places him among the lowest class in society. Life beyond Lithina’s walls has taught him resilience, caution, and the painful reality that opportunities are reserved for others.
Inside the city, Princess Elowin Johito enjoys a vastly different existence. Raised within the royal palace, she has grown up surrounded by wealth, tradition, and the belief that Lithina stands as a model of civilization. Her understanding of the kingdom begins to change when she witnesses Callen suffering public humiliation.
That single event alters her perspective. Questions emerge where certainty once existed. The values she has been taught begin to feel incomplete, and the kingdom she proudly represents no longer appears as flawless as before.
The contrast between Callen’s experiences and Elowin’s upbringing creates a strong emotional foundation for the novel. Their separate journeys gradually draw them together, opening the door to discoveries that neither of them expected.

A Story Driven by Secrets and Power
One of the most engaging aspects of Lithina is its exploration of power. The novel examines how authority is maintained, how history is controlled, and how injustice can become accepted when it is woven into everyday life.
As Callen searches for ways to protect his family, he becomes increasingly aware of forces operating behind the scenes. At the same time, Elowin starts uncovering truths that challenge everything she thought she knew about her homeland. Their paths become entangled within a dangerous network of royal politics, hidden agendas, and long-buried secrets.
Several key figures add complexity to the narrative. Commander Rorow Lithen, Prince Edward Thane, and other influential members of the Crown each play important roles in preserving the kingdom’s established order. Their actions create obstacles that keep the tension high and the stakes constantly rising.
Crafton skillfully develops a sense of uncertainty throughout the story. Readers are encouraged to question motives, examine loyalties, and wonder how much of Lithina’s celebrated history can truly be trusted.

Rich Fantasy Elements with Emotional Depth
While politics and social conflict form the backbone of the novel, Lithina also embraces many of the elements fantasy readers enjoy. There are hints of magic, whispers of ancient mysteries, forbidden relationships, and the promise of larger conflicts waiting beyond the horizon.
The setting itself feels vivid and immersive. Lithina’s gleaming architecture and royal grandeur create a striking image, yet the world never feels one-dimensional. Every beautiful landmark carries a sense of history, and every tradition seems connected to deeper truths still waiting to be uncovered.
What makes the novel particularly effective is its focus on character-driven storytelling. Callen and Elowin are more than representatives of opposing social classes. They are individuals wrestling with difficult choices, personal fears, and growing responsibilities.
Their development unfolds naturally as the story progresses. Readers witness their struggles, their doubts, and the courage required to challenge a system that discourages change. This emotional authenticity helps elevate the novel beyond a standard fantasy adventure.
The result is a book that balances large-scale worldbuilding with deeply personal moments, creating a reading experience that remains engaging from beginning to end.

Why This Journey Is Worth Taking
Lithina (Songs of Estana Book 1) offers far more than an entertaining fantasy escape. It presents a thoughtful examination of social divisions, personal identity, and the courage required to challenge accepted truths. Available on Amazon in Kindle, Paperback, and Hardcover formats, it opens the door to a larger saga that appears poised to grow even more captivating with each new installment.
We had the privilege of interviewing Cameron Crafton. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Hi Cameron, Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
Hi, I am an author originally from Louisville, Kentucky, and I currently live in Georgia with my wife, Martha, and our son, Louie. I write adult dark and epic fantasy focused on morally complex characters, political conflict, inherited injustice, and the ways powerful institutions disguise cruelty as order. Lithina is the first novel in my Songs of Estana series.
Please share your journey with our readers.
I first pursued writing more than a decade ago and published an early novel under a pen name. Life eventually pulled me away from it, and for years I wondered whether I had permanently abandoned the thing I had always wanted to do. Eventually, I returned to writing and began building Lithina. It became my re-debut and the beginning of a much larger fantasy series. Finishing it reminded me that a delayed dream is not necessarily a dead one.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I’m still building that success, but persistence has mattered more than anything else. I learned to finish the work, accept criticism without losing ownership of the story, revise honestly, and keep improving from one book to the next. I also stopped waiting to feel completely confident before moving forward. Confidence changes from day to day. Discipline, patience, and belief in the story have to remain even when confidence does not.
Any message for our readers?
First, A Garden of Snakes, Book Two in the Songs of Estana series, releases on July 8, and I am currently writing An Academy of Lies, Book Three. The world of Estana continues to expand as the series moves forward. Beginning with A Garden of Snakes, the series adopts a more mature prose style and darker tone, both of which continue to evolve in An Academy of Lies.
Second, do not assume that taking a different path, starting late, or stepping away means you have failed. Sometimes returning to a dream requires more courage than beginning it the first time. Create the thing that matters to you, allow yourself to improve, and do not let other people decide when your opportunity has passed.
Thank you so much, Cameron, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
