AdriAnn Manos’ Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs takes a fascinating twist on the fairy tales we grew up with, turning the “happily ever after” into something far more complex. In this thrilling fantasy novel, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel are no longer the benevolent queens of childhood stories. Instead, they rule their kingdoms with strict control, forcing their children into arranged marriages and creating a world where rebellion is brewing beneath the surface. Manos’ debut novel offers readers an exciting new adventure filled with conflict, unexpected alliances, and the challenge of forging one’s destiny.
With Shattered Faerie Tales, readers are immersed in a world where power has corrupted once-cherished heroes, and their children are left to find a way to escape their “unhappily ever after.” This is a novel about standing up to authority, choosing your own path, and challenging traditions that no longer serve a purpose.
A New Era for Fairy Tales
At the heart of Shattered Faerie Tales is Rose, the rebellious daughter of Snow White, who refuses to live under her mother’s oppressive rule. Rose has fallen in love with the son of the Evil Queen, but Snow White’s iron grip over her kingdom prevents the young princess from following her heart. Instead of allowing her daughter to choose her own future, Snow White—along with the other queens—enforces arranged marriages on their children to preserve their power.
This decision sparks Rose’s rebellion. Unlike the traditional damsel in distress, Rose is determined to create her own fate. She defies her mother and forms an unexpected alliance with the Evil Queen and other fairy tale villains, flipping the classic good-versus-evil dynamic on its head. Manos weaves a fascinating story where the villains are not what they seem, and the queens are no longer the righteous leaders they once were. The book explores what happens when the next generation rises up against their parents’ harsh rule, turning the fairy tale world into a battlefield of wills and power struggles.
The Fight for Freedom and Choice
Rose’s rebellion is not just a fight for love; it’s a fight for freedom. The arranged marriages that the queens impose represent a larger theme of control and domination. Rose’s refusal to comply with her mother’s wishes serves as a metaphor for breaking away from societal expectations and traditions. Manos does an excellent job of crafting a story that resonates with readers who have faced similar pressures—whether from family, society, or cultural norms.
Rose’s journey is not one of passive acceptance but of active resistance. She challenges the outdated beliefs of her parents and chooses to ally herself with those traditionally seen as evil. This decision adds complexity to the story, blurring the lines between good and bad, and illustrating that sometimes, the only way to gain freedom is to make unlikely alliances. The dynamic between Rose and the Evil Queen, in particular, is one of the novel’s highlights, as the two women, once enemies, work together to achieve a common goal.
Secrets, Power, and Consequences
As the plot unfolds, Shattered Faerie Tales reveals hidden secrets and unexpected betrayals that shake the foundations of Rose’s rebellion. Manos creates a story rich with intrigue and tension, keeping readers engaged as they navigate the twists and turns. The alliances between the heirs and villains are fragile, and as Rose digs deeper, she uncovers a power that threatens to upend everything.
The novel masterfully balances moments of intense action with personal growth and discovery. Rose is not just a rebel without a cause—she’s a young woman grappling with her identity and her place in a world that has been shaped by the legacies of those who came before her. The secrets she uncovers challenge her understanding of her family, her kingdom, and even her own beliefs. These revelations add depth to the novel, making it more than just a fantasy adventure, but a story about self-discovery and the cost of power.
A Modern Fairy Tale for a New Generation
AdriAnn Manos’ Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs is a modern retelling of classic fairy tales that speaks to a new generation of readers. The novel’s themes of rebellion, independence, and personal freedom resonate strongly in today’s world, where young people are increasingly questioning the traditions and rules handed down to them. Rose’s determination to break free from her mother’s control and carve out her own path is inspiring, and her alliance with the villains serves as a reminder that sometimes, the people who challenge the status quo are the ones who bring about change.
Manos’ writing is engaging and filled with rich detail, bringing the world of Shattered Faerie Tales to life. The blend of familiar characters with new and unexpected storylines keeps the reader invested, while the deeper themes of control, freedom, and the complexities of power give the novel a timeless quality. This is a fairy tale for those who want more than just a happy ending—it’s for readers who understand that real life, and real growth, comes from facing challenges, making hard choices, and standing up for what you believe in.

We had the privilege of interviewing AdriAnn Manos. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I work at Cinemark Theater as a Ticket Taker. Despite dealing with the challenges of schizencephaly, a rare brain defect similar to Cerebral Palsy, I’ve always tried to live life to the fullest. I’ve been in a wheelchair since birth, so I’ve spent a lot of time buried in books. Growing up, I found comfort and companionship in the characters of stories like Harry Potter (I’m a proud Slytherin), The Hobbit, and various fairytales.

Please tell us about your book, ‘Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs.’
My latest project, ‘Shattered Faerie Tales: Rise of the Heirs,’ explores the idea of life after “Happily Ever After.” It’s about Rose, the daughter of Snow White. When her parents set up a marriage for her against her will, she goes on a journey to discover her true identity while forming an alliance with the Council of Villains.
Please share your journey with our readers.
It took me an incredible seven years to put this book together, drawing inspiration from sources like “Once Upon a Time,” Disney’s “Descendants,” and “The Land of Stories” series by Chris Colfer. My love for fairytales and storytelling has been with me since I was young, with a special focus on writing fan fiction.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
I’ve stayed committed to writing, working to improve my skills and knowledge. I pursued an associate degree in creative writing, pushing myself to grow and get better. Throughout this journey, I’ve consistently proved that nothing can hold me back, and I firmly believe that with determination and hard work, anything is possible.
Any message for our readers?
