Parabox Speekers continue to show how familiar music can evolve without losing its original spirit. Released on July 24, 2026, AD / BC presents twelve carefully remixed tracks across 44 minutes and 30 seconds, giving long-time listeners a fresh way to experience songs that have developed over many years. Led by David Powell, the project blends psych-folk, dream pop, ambient textures, spoken word, and experimental songwriting into music that explores memory, mythology, identity, and personal transformation.
Rather than treating earlier recordings as finished works, Powell has consistently refined them as his production skills and artistic vision have grown. AD / BC reflects that philosophy, bringing together songs that have gradually reached the atmosphere and emotional depth originally imagined.
A Collection of Songs Shaped Through Years of Refinement
The story behind AD / BC stretches back much further than its release date. In 2011, David Powell recorded an unreleased album titled Swings and Roundabouts. Although the songs captured the ideas he wanted to express, he remained dissatisfied with the recording and mixing. Nine of those tracks were later reworked for Adliya and Juffair (2014), released under his earlier artist name, Parabox. One song eventually appeared on Here in Skin (2020), while another became part of ١٥٧٤ (2022).
Even after Adliya and Juffair, Powell continued refining the material. Improved production tools and greater experience encouraged another round of revisions, leading to four songs appearing on Here in Skin (2020), three on ١٥٧٤ (2022), and three on Touch Wood (2025). Many of those compositions were revisited once again, with six now featured on AD / BC and four included on 1574. Along the way, several songs received new titles that better reflected the atmosphere and inspiration behind them. The visual connection also remained consistent, as the cover of Adliya and Juffair became the foundation for the artwork of 1574, AD / BC, and Powell’s website, reinforcing the sense of one evolving artistic world.
Individual Tracks Reveal Fresh Character
Every song on AD / BC benefits from its renewed production while preserving the emotional core that first inspired it. “Hunky Dory” opens the album with warm acoustic textures and an inviting atmosphere that immediately draws listeners into its reflective mood. “(I Wanna Be) Your Melody” follows with gentle vocals and dreamlike layers that create an intimate sense of connection without feeling overstated.
“Cotton and Coal” balances earthy imagery with subtle instrumental detail, allowing its folk influences to blend naturally with ambient production. “Melt it Down” introduces a more fluid rhythm, its carefully layered arrangement giving the song a quiet emotional momentum. “AlgoRhythm” combines spoken word with hypnotic patterns that mirror its title, while “U R 1” creates a calming space through restrained production and expressive vocal delivery.
“Egyptian Song” stands out with its atmospheric textures and evocative melodic phrasing, giving the composition a distinctive sense of place. “Psychonaut” leans into exploration, using spacious sound design and reflective narration to create one of the album’s most immersive listening experiences. Later, “Down to Earth” offers a grounded emotional pause through understated instrumentation, while “Two Skies Away” expands the sound with airy melodies that suggest distance and longing. “Temple Lane” carries a thoughtful, almost cinematic quality before “Legends of Eden” closes the album with layered arrangements and a gradual emotional build that leaves a lasting impression.
An Expanding Musical Legacy
AD / BC becomes even more meaningful when viewed alongside the wider Parabox Speekers catalog. Here in Skin (2020) marked an important stage in Powell’s creative development, introducing reworked material that would continue evolving across later releases. ١٥٧٤ (2022) further established the project’s distinctive blend of experimental songwriting and emotional accessibility, earning praise from Jeremy at Sleeping Bag Studios for being both unique and inviting.
Touch Wood (2025), recorded entirely in 432Hz, expanded those ideas through mythic storytelling and richly layered production. Earlier in 2026, 1574 revisited songs from Here in Skin, ١٥٧٤, and Touch Wood, arranging them into a continuous narrative centered on awakening. AD / BC builds on that foundation while presenting another perspective on familiar compositions, showing how songs can continue to mature without losing their identity.
For both dedicated followers and newcomers, the album demonstrates that revisiting earlier work can be a creative process driven by curiosity rather than nostalgia. Through thoughtful production, expressive performances, and years of careful refinement, Parabox Speekers have created an album that honors the past while confidently moving forward. AD / BC stands as a rewarding listening experience for anyone drawn to immersive songwriting, atmospheric soundscapes, and music that continues revealing new details with every return.
