Modern remote technology allowed each contributor to bring an individual perspective into the material. “Her Song,” the album’s lead single, provides a compelling example of this process. Wheat recorded vocals and guitar in Asheville, and Kurtain tracked his bass parts in New Orleans. Drummer Sergio da Silva participated from Portugal, background vocalist Ally Rozario recorded in Malaysia, and Sam Choate contributed guitar from Texas.
Those separate performances come together with impressive fluidity. The song combines Americana, roots rock, classic pop writing, and subtle jazz-influenced details. A recurring reference to being “a half mile from my heart attack” creates tension throughout the song.
“Sand and Broken Shells” and “Fairytale of New Orleans” further demonstrate the record’s roots-rock range. Together, these selections suggest an album guided by memorable imagery, melodic expression, and emotional candor.
