TaMyya J Builds on a Gospel Classic with Conviction and Heart

Gospel music has always been the primary way we keep the stories of our faith alive, almost like a verbal history book that reminds us of the wins we’ve had. So much of today’s music culture moves at a relentless pace, but TaMyya J is taking a second to ground her sound in the classic miracles that have kept people going for generations. I was lucky enough to get an early listen to her newest track, and it’s clear this is a real, honest look back at the stories that make gospel music what it is.

It’s no secret that people have been waiting to see what she would do next. While she’s been busy staying on top of other endeavors and leading worship down in Norfolk, her voice has definitely been missed on the streaming side of things. After her previous hits, everyone was curious about her next move, and with “Never Shall Forget,” she isn’t just making a comeback but stepping into a new chapter with clarity and conviction.

Right from the start, the track hits you with a massive sound that is full of energy. The production is sharp, leaning into that high-energy, urban gospel feel. There’s a certain brightness to the horns and the arrangement that reminds me of the big choir sounds from years ago, but it’s been updated with a modern beat that keeps it feeling current. TaMyya’s voice is clear and strong, showing off that professional skill she built during her years on the road with Mary Mary. She knows exactly how to handle a big arrangement, and you can tell she’s putting her whole heart into the performance.

The best part about this track is how much it respects gospel history. TaMyya has been very open about how this song was inspired by the music she grew up with, specifically the work of John P. Kee. She actually reached out to him and his team to ask for permission to use the hook from his original version of “Never Shall Forget.” Getting his blessing really shows the kind of artist she is. This isn’t just some random sample but a genuine nod to the legends who came before her. For anyone who grew up going to big gospel concerts in the 90s, hearing that familiar hook is going to feel like a great blast from the past.

In “Never Shall Forget,” TaMyya takes us through some of the biggest moments in the scriptures, parting the Red Sea, the walls of Jericho coming down, and Daniel in the lion’s den. It’s a straightforward list of times God showed up for His people, and she sings those lines with a lot of conviction. She manages to take these ancient stories and make them feel like they actually matter today, connecting those big miracles to the smaller ones we see in our own lives every day.

TaMyya J grew up in Willingboro, New Jersey, and was apparently singing before she could even talk properly. By the time she was 14, she was already winning the Youth Division at the McDonald’s Gospelfest at Madison Square Garden. That early start gave her a level of polish that you just can’t fake. Whether she was hitting the charts or getting nominated for awards, she’s always kept her standards high. You can really hear that experience in the way she performs. There’s a confidence there that only comes from years of being in the studio with the best in the business.

Beyond being a powerful vocalist, TaMyya J has consistently used her platform to serve others. Her work with the Don’t Be A Bully Foundation and her support of No Kid Hungry reflect a commitment that goes deeper than music. That same heart shows up in “Never Shall Forget.” The song speaks directly to anyone who has had to push through difficult seasons. It encourages listeners to reflect on their own journey and recognize the strength it took to make it through. It’s rooted in gratitude, but it doesn’t ignore struggle. It acknowledges that the road can be long and the problems can be big, but it affirms that you aren’t walking it alone.

From a technical standpoint, the song is just a lot of fun to listen to. The way the vocals are layered in the chorus gives it a rich, full sound that really lifts the hook, and the drums stay steady so the energy never drops off. It’s infectious and genuinely happy. It’s the sound of someone who loves what they do and knows exactly why they’re doing it.

I’m telling you now, once “Never Shall Forget” hits the airwaves, it’s going to be around for a long time. It’s a song that gets stuck in your head in a good way, and you’ll find yourself humming it. If this is what we can expect from TaMyya J in 2026, then we’re in for a great year. We’ve definitely missed hearing new music from her, but after listening to this, I can say the wait was worth it.
