Hi, I’m an author, educator, and lifelong fan of all things Disney. My wife and I recently moved to Orlando to be closer to the parks and immerse ourselves in the incredible Disney community. Over the years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the unique fan groups and subcultures that bring so much creativity and magic to the Disney experience. Through my writing, I aim to explore these vibrant communities and share their stories with others.

My book, Once Upon a Fandom: Disney’s Hidden Subcultures and Fan Groups, takes readers on a journey into the enchanting world of Disney fandom. It dives deep into the diverse and passionate subcultures that exist within and beyond the parks. Our journey into the heart of Disney fandom began when my wife and I decided to relocate to Orlando. We wanted to live closer to the parks and immerse ourselves in the subcultures we’ve admired for years. Moving here has allowed us to meet people from all walks of life who share a deep love for Disney. As an introvert, I’ve found that connecting with these communities has been both inspiring and energizing, as it’s a space where passion and creativity are celebrated. Writing Once Upon a Fandom was a natural next step in sharing these experiences and stories with others.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Several strategies have helped me along the way:

• Curiosity and Observation: I’ve always been fascinated by people and their stories. Spending time in the parks and observing the unique subcultures helped me gather insights and connect with the communities featured in the book.
• Passion for Storytelling: My love for Disney and my background in education have allowed me to craft a narrative that is both informative and engaging, making these fan groups accessible to a wider audience.
• Building Connections: Engaging with Disney fans—whether through Dapper Day events, pin trading, or casual conversations in the parks—has deepened my understanding of these subcultures and enriched the book.
