We had the privilege of interviewing Cheryl Paris. Here are excerpts from the interview.

Hi Cheryl, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.

Hi, I’m a clinical hypnotherapist and mental trauma coach based in Berkshire. I specialize in helping professional women, especially working mums, overcome anxiety, post-traumatic stress, and emotional exhaustion. My work through HerGuru Hypnotherapy and Coaching focuses on creating personalized pathways to emotional healing. I use a blend of hypnotherapy, one-to-one coaching, and practical resources to guide women toward living a more balanced and fulfilling life. My sessions are conducted online, making it easier for busy women to access support when they need it most.

I’m also the host of the ABGW podcast, which stands for Amazing Brilliant Gorgeous Wonderful—a reminder of the positive affirmations we all need to embrace. The tagline of the podcast is Trauma Recovery Redefined, because I truly believe that healing doesn’t have to be painful, hard, or uncomfortable. Change can be automatic, natural, and easy. I’m deeply passionate about helping women heal from trauma, anxiety, and stress—particularly those who, on the surface, appear to have it all together but are struggling inside. My work is about creating a safe, supportive space where women can address the emotional challenges they face without fear or judgement.

Please tell us about your journey.

My own journey into hypnotherapy and trauma coaching is rooted in my own experiences of trauma, growing up in a home marked by domestic violence. My father would hit my mother whenever he was angry, and for many years, I didn’t fully understand the gravity of what was happening. It became normalized. But by the time I was 14 or 15, I began to recognize that what was happening wasn’t right. Even as I focused on my studies, went to university, built a career, got married, and had children, I couldn’t shake the underlying unhappiness and unresolved anger that simmered within me.

The turning point came when I was bullied at work. That experience led me to explore communication and stress-related mentoring, which in turn opened doors to working with young people suffering from anxiety. As I mentored them, I realized that my own unresolved trauma was affecting my happiness. This led me to create my ‘flipping the script’ approach. I believe in going back to the source of trauma, reframing the experience, and helping the mind adopt a new, more positive narrative. This allows the mind to generalize that healing across all past and future experiences, leading to a more fulfilling life.

Even after building a successful career and family life, I struggled with unresolved anger and unhappiness. Being bullied at work led me to explore communication and mentoring, which revealed my need for deeper healing. Through hypnotherapy, I developed my ‘flipping the script’ approach, helping others reframe their trauma and embrace positive change. Today, I use this method to guide women towards healing and a more fulfilling life.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

The key strategies that helped me succeed are continuous learning and truly listening to my clients. Staying up to date with the latest hypnotherapy techniques ensures I offer the best support possible. Building genuine, trusting relationships allows me to tailor my approach to each person’s needs. Organization and planning have also been essential in balancing client work and my own well-being. Lastly, my ‘flipping the script’ approach—reframing trauma—has been instrumental in helping clients heal and move forward with confidence.

You don’t have to face trauma or anxiety alone. Healing is possible, and it doesn’t have to be hard. By taking small steps, you can reframe your past and move forward with confidence.
