How an Ex-Soldier Sergeant Jordan is Empowering the Disabled Community with HandicapHelp.net

Life is full of unexpected turns, and for Jordan Teegardin, a C5-C6 Quadriplegic and former army sergeant, the journey took a significant detour in 2012 due to a motorcycle accident. Despite these challenges, Jordan has transformed his personal experiences into a beacon of hope and support through HandicapHelp.net, a blog dedicated to aiding individuals with disabilities. This platform serves as a vital resource, offering advice, community connections, and a wealth of information to those navigating similar paths.

From Battlefield to Blogging: Jordan’s Inspiring Journey

Jordan Teegardin’s story begins with his service as an infantryman sergeant in the army, including a deployment to Iraq in 2010. After his injury in 2012, Jordan settled in South Carolina and faced the daunting task of adjusting to life as a quadriplegic. Through his own experiences, he recognized a glaring lack of centralized resources and support for people with disabilities. This realization ignited his passion to create Handicap Help, a blog dedicated to bridging the gap between those in need and the available resources.

Handicap Help addresses a myriad of challenges faced by the disabled community, providing a platform where individuals can find practical advice on mobility issues, accessibility options, adaptive equipment, assistive technology, mental health, relationships, and personal goal setting. Jordan’s commitment to curating and creating relevant content has made Handicap Help a go-to resource for many.

Please tell us about your work.

My work involves curating and creating content that addresses the various challenges faced by the disabled community. We provide information on accessibility options, adaptive equipment, and assistive technology. We also address topics such as mental health, relationships, and pursuing personal goals despite challenges.

I have authored two empowering books, “Tread on the System” and “Surviving the Apocalypse While Disabled,” which offer invaluable insights into navigating the tumultuous aftermath of societal collapse. My work focuses on building independence while thoughtfully considering the lifestyle and medical needs that accompany my disability and those of many others.

What motivated you to start Handicap Help?

My journey began when I realized the lack of centralized information and resources for people with disabilities. After my injury, I experienced firsthand the difficulties and isolation that many disabled individuals face. This personal connection fueled my passion to create a platform that bridges the gap between need and availability.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

One of the key strategies that helped us succeed was building a strong, engaged community. By actively listening to our audience and responding to their needs, we created content that truly resonated with them. Partnering with other organizations and experts in the field has been instrumental in expanding our reach. Hosting our annual accessibility event, which is coming up, has also been crucial.
