Music became his refuge—a way to articulate complex emotions and navigate the journey through grief and acceptance.
Eventually, the deeply personal nature of the album led VunDane to share it publicly, driven by a desire to honor his father’s memory in a meaningful way. We had the privilege of interviewing the Music Artist. Here are excerpts from the interview:
Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.
I’m VunDane, a multidisciplinary electronic artist focused on music, soundscapes, and emotional expression. My work blends cinematic sound design with personal narratives, often exploring themes like loss, identity, and transformation. Most recently, I released an album called Tom, a tribute to my father and a deeply personal exploration of grief and healing. This album honors his life and I’m donating proceeds to cancer research.
Please tell us about your journey.
My creative journey has always been tied to personal experience. I’ve worked in different forms of media over the years, but music became the space where I could be most honest. When my father got sick, everything in my life changed. I spent a long time by his side, and after he passed, I turned to music to process what I was feeling. That’s how Tom came to be. It wasn’t planned as a career move or project; it was just something I had to do. It became a way to both grieve and honor him and helped me reconnect with myself as an artist.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Honestly, the biggest strategy has been to stay authentic. I don’t create with algorithms or trends in mind I focus on telling the truth and letting the music lead. That, and patience. Some of the most meaningful work takes time to create and even more time to be understood. Being involved in every part of the process from sound design to visuals has helped me build a world around the music that feels cohesive and personal. My music is different, but I like to think it’s a reflection of the time it was produced.
Any message for our readers?
If you’re going through something grief, change, or just feeling lost, I hope my music reminds you that you’re not alone. The pain can feel isolating, but there’s power in expressing it. Don’t be afraid to create from that place, or even just to sit with it. Sometimes the most personal stories end up being the ones that connect the most.
We’re all navigating something. What helped me was giving myself the permission to slow down and make something real, without the pressure of perfection. Whether you’re an artist or just someone trying to make sense of where you are right now, your voice matters. Your experience has weight. And when you share it, it can move people in ways you might not even realize.
Thank you so much, VunDane, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
