Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Dr. Rolanda Fabien, Founder and CEO of Bright IDEA Consulting.
Please tell us about yourself.
I am a dedicated wife, mother, author, and educator. I am also a military veteran of the US Army and National Guard. I have degrees in teaching and learning, educational leadership, counseling, student services, and psychology.
Please tell us about what it is that you do.
My specialty areas include Federal and State compliance in Section 504/Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). I have provided development courses for teachers and school leaders, numerous community partners in education, and other organizations that support people with different abilities. I am an advocate of diversity, inclusion, and equity. My life’s work has been centered around my three areas of passion: education, equity, and family.

The IDEA in Bright IDEA stands for Inclusive, Diverse, Equitable, and Accessible. Bright IDEA was developed to address the need for empowerment. I set out to ensure students, parents, educators, and organizations become “collaborative advocates” in meeting the needs of students with disabilities. Too often, there is an Us-Against-Them perspective to special education. We are all advocates and need to work together to meet the needs of students.
I set the vision for Bright IDEA Consulting, and my mission is to transform the way special education is done. I believe all the stakeholders of education need to be knowledgeable about Section 504 and IDEA. Being knowledgeable will foster individual confidence and team togetherness. In the end, through collective support, students will get what they need to live lives with integrity and become contributing members of our global society. This is a win-win for the greater good.
