We had the pleasure of interviewing Jasmine Davis. Here are the excerpts from the interview.

Hi Jasmine, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about yourself.

Hi, I’m an actress, model, writer, and now musical pop star best known for my roles on the hit TV show TheChi on Showtime & another hit TV show Never Have I Ever on Netflix. Also, I am currently filming a movie called The Beggarman.

When and what made you decide to start a new journey with music as an already established actress?

I’ve always enjoyed music & was writing songs since I was about 12 sitting at my mom’s kitchen table. I also come from a background full of talented singers in my family and musicians. They just weren’t famous.

What do you want your supporters to know about this EP, T.U.B, and your single, Passion, which is the only song your music listeners can hear right now before the EP comes out on April 29, 2023?

I decided to take them on a journey where I was mentally a couple of years ago. I went through some pretty traumatic times in my business and personal relationships, all the backstabbing, losing my best friend to potential jealousy and deceiving lovers, but all that made me grow, and I’m thankful for all the lessons.

How did you come up with the title of your EP, T.U.B, and what does it stand for anyone who doesn’t know?

Lol yeah, I was straight-up willing on this one ☝️; T.U.B stands for (That Unicorn Bitch) because I truly feel like I’m a unicorn. I truly feel like I’m unique in the way I think most of the time and certain decisions I make in my life, whether good or bad, and I have never met anyone like myself, to be honest. Not to mention that people whose blood type is negative are very rare. And I always knew I was that bitch. Lol.

Loving your new song, Passion. It’s such a vibe. It just makes you wanna dance, and a great workout song; it’s sexy. Afrobeat, in general, has gained popularity. What inspired you to get into the world of Afrobeats, and can we expect more in the future?

I just became totally new and became inspired by the Afrobeat culture. Honestly, it was truly an accident. I was not planning on having a song on my EP with an Afrobeat vibe, but when I was in Miami and heard so many different sounds at clubs, the inspiration struck me. Then I ran across this Producer called BOI-EGAR online who had this fire beat. I had to write to call up my engineer at Hushmoney Studios and creative passion. I’m open to exploring more of this type of music as an artist or any type of music that inspires me.

It seems like you love to pull from different genres. So, are there any other genres readers can expect on this EP or from you in general?

That’s a great observation, and yeah, I’m not the type of artist that can be defined in a box. Honestly, I don’t know if I will ever have an album or EP with just one genre. I think I’m always going to have little elements of pop/rap, some dance EDM, hip-hop/punk, and I’ve even written some country that I can’t wait to record and put out. The fact is I love exploring different musical elements.

Have you ever considered writing for other artists?

I’m totally open to writing for others as I continue to explore my writing ability and musical journey.

What are the four older artists and four newer artists that inspired you?

Wow, I only get four. This is a tough one. Ok, we’re gonna start with the older artist since I grew up with a mother and grandmother who played great music. Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Al Green, and GEORGE GERSHWIN, who I honestly didn’t realize until recently. A lot of songs I heard growing up were played by this guy. Ok, my four somewhat newer artists are Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Taylor Swift.

I know there is a growing new wave of artists choosing to be independent. Is that something you desire as well?

Right now, I guess so, as I’m just starting out, and I want to explore more and be in control of my music and what I release and how I release it, but if I had to sign with a label, it will probably be under Drake label or Nicki Minaj if she had a label.

Thank you so much, Jasmine, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
