Today, we have the pleasure of interviewing Ehren Muhammad, Host of The Ambition Show podcast, and Founder of EMPro, Ltd. The Ambition Show is the platform for those that have that burning desire to reach their goals.

Let us know about your passion, and why did you choose this field?

My passion is storytelling and creating things. So, while in business school, I was trying to figure out what field I could combine my love to create (write, draw, and tell stories) and my enjoyment for business. One marketing class opened my world, and I have never looked back. Primarily, because I figured out that the main instrument of a business that generates revenue is its marketing and if the business cannot brand itself effectively with story, design, and audience identification, then one’s business will struggle and fail.

Who are your role models?

My professional role models are Sean P. Diddy Combs. The diversified business model he created is a great model for others to learn from. Tyler Perry, because he is a great example of why it’s important to work toward living your dreams and the importance of giving back. Also, Bill Gates, due to the fact the empire he built was based on making something that wasn’t accessible by “laymen” for lack of a better term easily accessible – the personal computer became more personal and common due to Microsoft’s products in many ways. Finally, and not least, the late great, Stan Lee, he just thought differently and ran with it and inspired millions to just create their own worlds. Personally, my mother is my role model. She showed me just how much a person can accomplish if they put their heart into something that they love doing.

Great, What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far?

Starting and selling a business. I proved to myself that I can do it. No venture capital, no investors, only me and my former business partner. We created an e-commerce apparel brand, and when I knew it was time to go, I successfully sold it.

Please tell us about your company.

In college, I said what I wanted to do is help entrepreneurs build successful businesses to support their communities. I have assembled a fantastic team that helps small business owners and entrepreneurs leverage digital marketing tools such as websites, social media, SEO, and Online advertising to grow their brands and generate revenue. The team is diverse, experienced, and always learning, we have a great group.

What are your success habits?

I make a decision, I don’t linger. Either I will do it or I won’t, but I make that decision strategically because I track my workload. I read a great book that helped me understand how my fears and procrastination were holding me back. Sometimes you have to get out of your own way. The book was “The 5 Second Rule” by Mel Robbins.

Which social media channels work best for promoting your work? What exactly do you do on the social media channel that makes it work for you?

LinkedIn has been the most effective. I am a marketing professional, and we focus on results. Social media engagement is great, but engagement that does not convert into brand awareness, website traffic, leads, and/or sales is not what a business owner should settle for. LinkedIn Ads have converted higher, and the connections have created more results as well. But one must keep in mind the target audience. My focus is to help business owners, and the mindset of those that primarily use Facebook or Instagram is not the mindset of someone utilizing LinkedIn.

What does your typical day look like?

Prayer in the morning, then some type of exercise, either yoga or bodyweight training. Then from there, I just start knocking tasks off of my list one by one. I make a schedule and stick to it, so my goals get my undivided attention.

What was the hardest decision you ever had to make?

Knowing when to let go of a venture that I was no longer passionate about.

Looking back, what’s one thing you wish you understood better before you ever got started?

That is easy, “Fear is your worst enemy.” Nothing will prevent you from succeeding more than your own fears and many of which are pre-conceived fears, not genuine fears. When I got that through my head and started moving with more faith and will power, I have grown tremendously.

What is your favorite quote?

A closed mouth doesn’t get fed.

Be honest with yourself about what you want and why you want it, and from there, do not let fear dictate how you pursue want makes you happy.
