R.B.Bunn has released a new fantasy novel, Tears in Blood: Echoes of the Past. It is an epic fantasy story that blends in elements of other genres. Tears in Blood is about two archeologists who go, at the behest of the empire they are part of, to unearth ancient ruins. But there are legends that these ruins hold an ancient evil. Will the archeologists find there is truth to these stories? Is there something sinister lurking in a long-abandoned place?
Tears in Blood: Echoes of the Past follows Bertram, an imperial scholar who comes from a harsh life on the streets, and Lady Aria Ardante, the youngest daughter of a nobleman, eager to prove that she is much more than just someone with a title or someone from a rich family. Their ideologies are as different as their histories: Bertram believes that people are selfish and cruel, while Lady Aria is more of an optimist and recognizes that past mistakes can teach people to do better in the future.
This unlikely pair is sent to the glowing and beautiful city of Decabado, built on top of the ruins of the Blood Dawn Empire. The history of this country is dark and unclear. What is known is that it suddenly collapsed after a civil war, and this used to be the greatest civilization. But nobody is clear on what happened to bring forth its demise.
Now Bertram and Aria are dispatched to these ruins and must face the legend that a great evil is sealed behind the walls of what used to be the greatest city of all. And if that evil is unleashed, it will go on a rampage once again. Now, the archeologists, alongside the citizens of Decabado, must discover the truth and prevent the city from being swallowed by darkness. History must not be repeated.
This is a great option for fans of fantasy who are looking for new and original premises and new takes on epic fantasy. With a couple of compelling protagonists and a fascinating mystery at the center of the plot, Tears in Blood: Echoes of the Past offers a unique experience.
This book offers a unique premise and a beautiful world to explore, with a lot of exciting ideas to develop and consider. The main characters are interesting and provide a cool contrast to each other. We had the pleasure of interviewing R.B.Bunn. Here are the excerpts from the interview.
Hi, Great to have you with us today! Please share with our readers about your book, Tears in Blood: Echoes of the Past.
Hi, I currently work in the education field, particularly in higher-ed. My book is an epic fantasy novel with some light horror, mystery, and suspense elements. It centers around two archeologists who are tasked by their empire to go and unearth ancient ruins that are rumored to house a great evil. Will they find ancient secrets or something more sinister?
Please tell us about your journey.
My journey as a writer has been a long one. I’ve always had a passion for it ever since I was young, even competing every year in young author’s at my school. A few times, I even won the grade-wide competition for my year. I also wrote two novels in high school though rough drafts would be a more accurate way to describe them. There was a third novel I wrote during and after my college years, though that project did not feel right to publish due to the personal nature of it. For my debut novel, I wanted it to be something smaller in scale than some of my other ideas for novels while also being entertaining. The book I wrote now actually started out as a short story project for my high school English class. The project was to write a horror story, so I came up with a horror story about two archeologists who were tasked with unsealing cursed ruins. I took that idea and fleshed it out into the novel I’m proud to be releasing now. The journey has been a long one since this is not my full-time job, and I have decided to go the indie route.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
What has helped me become successful in my journey was research. I did a lot of research into writing, publishing, and marketing. I actually have a bit of a marketing background, as I worked in design and social media marketing for an agency for a while, so that was a bit of luck too. Discovering Reedsy was a great boon as it allowed me to find the editors and cover designer I worked with for this project. I would highly recommend them. Campfire, which is a storyboarding software, was also of big help when it came to organizing my story and creating a guide for me to look at as I was writing Tears in Blood.
