Poetry for the Soul: Unveiling ‘Deus Meus’ by K. E. Sermonté
Stepping into the poetic landscape of Deus Meus, readers quickly discover they’re not merely flipping through pages—they’re embarking on an emotional pilgrimage. K. E. Sermonté’s first poetry collection invites readers to explore faith’s complexities, from devastating loss to transformative healing. With each poem, Sermonté gently encourages reflection on deeply personal experiences, resonating quietly yet powerfully.
Faith Reimagined
Deus Meus delves bravely into Sermonté’s challenging journey within a faith that caused pain rather than comfort. Instead of delivering sermons, he confides as a close friend might during late-night conversations. Each verse opens a door to hidden vulnerabilities, granting permission to readers to acknowledge their own struggles with spirituality and self-perception.
There’s something profoundly comforting in Sermonté’s honesty. He doesn’t sugarcoat the turbulence of his spiritual past. Instead, he openly navigates the tension between bitterness and hope, allowing space for doubt and renewal to coexist. The result is poetry filled with authenticity, where readers find solace in knowing they’re not alone in their spiritual and emotional complexities.
The Language of Longing
One standout feature of Sermonté’s poetry is its emotional clarity. Consider his poignant poem, What I Mean When I Say I’m Tired:
“I don’t mean I want to sleep.
I mean I want to disappear for a while.
To be rain on a stranger’s roof.
To be smoke rising from someone else’s fire.”
These lines capture a universal longing—escaping the heavy weight of existence, even temporarily. Such insights make Sermonté’s poetry incredibly relatable. His work offers readers the comfort of recognition, gently validating the complex emotions they might not articulate themselves.
Within Deus Meus, there’s a subtle rhythm—soft whispers mingled with intense moments that unexpectedly take your breath away. Sermonté doesn’t just write poems; he crafts emotional landscapes. Each word feels intentionally chosen, each line carefully constructed, allowing readers to pause, breathe, and internalize the profound sentiments he expresses.
Beauty Between the Lines
Another enchanting aspect of Deus Meus is the presence of Sermonté’s insightful author notes. These glimpses into his creative process enhance the reading experience, deepening the connection between poet and reader. The notes provide charming, intriguing snapshots into Sermonté’s thoughts, revealing the origins of his poetic expressions. They’re not merely footnotes—they’re intimate, personal invitations to engage more deeply with his work.
Adding a visual layer of intrigue, the paperback edition of Deus Meus includes mesmerizing watercolor illustrations. These soft, haunting images complement the poems beautifully, creating an immersive, evocative experience. Rather than merely illustrating words, they invite deeper contemplation, allowing emotions to linger even longer after the last verse has been read.
Introducing K. E. Sermonté
The brilliance behind Deus Meus lies in its author. Canadian poet K. E. Sermonté combines classical poetic influences with contemporary emotional insight. An Invitation to Reflect

We had the privilege of interviewing K. E. Sermonté. Here are excerpts from the interview.
Hi, It’s great to have you with us today! Please share about yourself with our readers.
Hi, I’m from a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada. My family were blue-collar workers and farmers, and I followed in their footsteps, but I was so unhappy with my life that I decided to pursue my dream of going to school to be an academic.
Please tell us about your journey.
My parents divorced when I was five, and we had a faith that excommunicated them for it. My parents lost most of their family, friends, and support through their divorce. I had lost lots of people I loved and grew up alone, trying to carry the burden of my families emotions. My childhood left me with a disdain for religion and complete disbelief about God. But as I grew up, I realized that God isn’t just about rules and regulations, it’s about a relationship. It’s seeing a deer walk with its fawn on a summer morning. It’s every beautiful thing we take for granted in life.
What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?
Writing saved my life; it helped me to think about my feelings and express them in not only a healthy way, but in a way people wanted to listen. For the first time in my life, I felt heard.
Any message for our readers?
This is my debut collection. It’s by no means perfect, but I am happy with what I’ve put together. I kept putting publishing off, but I knew if I didn’t put it out, I’d spend the next two years mulling over trying to make it “perfect,” which it still wouldn’t be. I hope to reach readers who feel seen and understood by my work. I’m excited to share this and work on getting more out. Whoever you may be, wherever you are, whatever hurt you, this book is for you.
Thank you so much for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
