Marcell Benedetti Inspires Young Hearts in Lola and Marco: Recipe for Kindness and Friendship

Lola and Marco: Baking Kindness Into Every Friendship

Think back to your own childhood—what made a story unforgettable? Perhaps it was delightful characters, relatable adventures, or memorable lessons learned. Marcell Benedetti’s heartwarming children’s book, Lola and Marco: Recipe for Kindness and Friendship, offers all of these elements and more. Crafted for young readers aged 4 to 10, this enchanting tale skillfully blends valuable lessons on kindness and friendship into a narrative as delightful as fresh-baked cookies.

Lola’s Secret Ingredient: Kindness

From the moment readers meet Lola, they instantly adore her warm, kind-hearted nature. To Lola, kindness isn’t just a nice idea—it’s her daily practice, woven into every interaction she shares. Whether she’s lending an ear to a friend’s troubles or baking her grandmother’s delicious chocolate chip cookies, Lola demonstrates how small gestures can carry profound meaning.

One charming element Benedetti includes is Lola’s special cookie recipe, cleverly integrated into the story. This playful detail transforms the reading experience into a delightful family activity. Young readers and their families can bond over baking, turning storytime into quality family time, reinforcing the book’s powerful lessons about generosity and connection.

Marco’s Journey: Choosing Friendship Over Winning

Initially, Marco’s world revolves around being tough and winning at all costs. His perspective is shaped by competition, not compassion. However, Lola’s persistent kindness challenges Marco to reconsider his views. Her consistent warmth begins to soften his outlook, guiding Marco toward the powerful realization that friendship is far more rewarding than victory.

Marco’s transformation unfolds naturally, illustrating relatable lessons for young readers about empathy, patience, and true friendship. Benedetti presents Marco’s growth with gentle authenticity, offering readers clear examples of kindness’s transformative power. Through Marco’s experience, children learn how acts of compassion and empathy can reshape their lives—and the lives of those around them.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

First of all, thank you for having me.  My name is Marcell Benedetti.  I love to write children’s stories that inspire and give positive messages.

Please tell us about your journey.

Well, I really like to be around children. They make me happy. I believe each one has a unique character. Given all the technology today, I see kids getting disconnected from things that really matter, like communication, friendship and acts of kindness. Don’t get me wrong, I think technology is great when used wisely.  Each child should feel like they can make the world a better place with the choices that they make. There is always somebody out there who believes in you.  That’s why I wrote this story, to inspire kids to face difficulties with kindness and to never give up.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

I see the positive things in life.  I think a good attitude, belief in others, and a touch of fun inspired me to write amazing stories to share.

Any message for our readers

I want the children to know that being kind doesn’t mean being quiet, it means being strong enough to care.  You will be surprised at what you can do. Keep shining and always bring the best of yourself.

Thank you so much, Marcell, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
