Dr. Harsin Paul Captured Real Human Emotions in His Debut Novel “Syllabus of the Heart”

Syllabus of the Heart: A Teacher’s Journey Through Love, Loss, and the Strength to Begin Again” by Dr Harsin Paul invites readers into a world where emotions carry as much weight as life’s biggest decisions. The novel walks through the life of Professor Raj, a man who teaches by day and silently battles his own memories by night. It presents the deeply personal side of teachers, the side many people never stop to consider. Readers meet Raj as someone who shaped generations of students, guided his family with care, and poured strength into raising his son Amit. Yet, beneath all the roles, he carried a quiet ache from a love that slipped away years before.

The story gives a close look at how fate sometimes circles back in the most unexpected ways. Raj once loved Preeti with complete sincerity during his MBA days. Their bond felt right, warm, and full of promise. Circumstances broke them apart, and life moved him forward. He eventually married Anamika and built a stable world for Amit. Still, a part of his heart kept the memories of Preeti tucked away.

Years later, destiny crosses paths with the family again, and this time it arrives with more force.

When Two Generations Face the Same Test of Love

Amit grows into a dedicated doctor and finds love in Dr. Saloni, someone who shares his journey through seven intense years of MBBS and MD. Their connection grows in hospital corridors, early morning rounds, late-night study sessions, and the unspoken understanding only medical students can share. Their love feels natural and strong. They’re confident about building a life together.

Challenges rise when Saloni’s father, a well-known industrialist preparing for his MP campaign, refuses to accept Amit. His decision comes from a preference for a groom with a “higher status” from Singapore. The disapproval shakes Amit and Saloni, but the shock that follows changes everything: Saloni’s mother is Preeti, Raj’s first love. The revelation reopens emotions Raj thought he had long buried. It brings back the same crossroads he once faced in his youth.

This time, Raj stands firm. He chooses to fight for Amit and Saloni in a steady, grounded way. It becomes a deeply touching circle of redemption, where a father protects his son from a heartbreak he once endured. Through these characters, the novel shows how love can stretch across generations and how healing sometimes comes when life gives a second chance.

What “Syllabus of the Heart” Truly Represents

The book brings to light the hidden chapters of a teacher’s life. People often believe professors carry simple routines, calm schedules, and peaceful days. Raj’s story questions that belief. Teachers go through heartbreak, overwhelming responsibilities, and their own personal storms. They walk into classrooms with a smile while emotions remain tightly held in place.

The novel also explores marriages shaped by responsibilities, expectations, and unspoken fears. These relationships are held together by effort, patience, and the willingness to keep learning from one another. “Syllabus of the Heart” shows that love grows through conversations that feel risky, moments where misunderstandings almost push people apart, and the determination to stay connected even when everything feels uncertain.

Anyone who has loved, been disappointed, or wished for a kinder chapter in life will find themselves reflected in these pages. The book reminds readers that healing is possible. The heart continues to teach, even when the lessons feel difficult.

About the Author

Dr Harsin Paul writes with a gentle understanding of everyday emotions. Growing up in a traditional middle-class setting helped him see how families are built through love, pressure, and quiet sacrifices. His stories blend realism with romance to create narratives that feel familiar and deeply sincere. When Dr Harsin observes life, he pays attention to small gestures, fleeting expressions, and moments that often slip past unnoticed.

As a professor with over twenty-five years of experience, Dr Harsin has spent his life guiding students while balancing academic responsibilities with the emotional demands people rarely talk about. His work, both in the classroom and through writing, continues to highlight the unspoken pressures students and teachers quietly carry. “Syllabus of the Heart” is his voice, shaped by years of watching how real lives unfold behind composed appearances. He chooses to stay behind the story so the focus remains on the emotions and the people who inspired them.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

I am Dr Harsin Paul (my pen name), a professor at a leading Indian university. For over 25 years, I’ve been shaping management graduates, and I’ve lived a life that quietly balances academic responsibilities with emotional realities the world rarely sees. My work continues to revolve around teaching, writing, shaping young minds, and understanding the silent pressures students carry every day.

Though academia has been my profession, storytelling has become my voice. My debut novel, Syllabus of the Heart, was born from years of witnessing the unseen struggles, sacrifices, and unspoken emotions that define a professor’s life—truths that often go unnoticed, untouched, and unexplored in fiction.

By choosing to stay behind the story, I hope the spotlight remains where it truly belongs: on the narrative, on the emotions, and on the quiet human experiences that shaped this book.

Please tell us about your journey.

My journey has been shaped by a disciplined middle-class upbringing, strong values, and the desire to make a meaningful difference. Over the years, I witnessed students battling heartbreak, ambition, family pressure, and societal expectations. Parallelly, I saw professors silently carrying emotional wounds—failed relationships, sacrifices, loneliness, and unfulfilled dreams—while still showing up every day to motivate others. These unspoken truths stayed with me. Professor Raj, the protagonist of my book, is born from a blend of my experiences and countless real stories I witnessed in classrooms and hostel corridors. Writing this novel became more than a creative pursuit; it became a healing experience, a way to shed light on the tender, fragile side of an academician’s life.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Consistency over intensity. Listening more than speaking. Learning from every setback. Staying grounded in compassion. And converting pain into purpose. I’ve always believed that success is not in titles or achievements but in the lives we touch and the hearts we understand. These principles shaped both my academic journey and my writing.

Any message for our readers

Every heart follows its own syllabus—full of lessons, courage, and quiet strength. Be gentle with yourself, patient with your dreams, and kind to the people around you. You never know the battles someone hides behind a calm smile. Syllabus of the Heart is my tribute to teachers, to love, to resilience, and to the unseen emotional world of educators.

Thank you so much, Dr Harsin Paul, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
