‘Crimson Wings – Orders From Below’ Showcases B.T. Skylark As a Storyteller for All Generations

Crimson Wings – Orders From Below: Courage, Fire, and Friendship

B.T. Skylark’s Crimson Wings – Orders From Below continues a saga where dragons share the skies with fighter planes, and young men must grow into legends before they’re ready. It’s the second book in a trilogy that blends the thrill of fantasy with the stark realities of World War II. The result is a gripping sequel that explores loyalty, resilience, and the power of finding strength in unlikely places.

Into the Firestorm

The story opens after Henry, Victor, and Crimson survive the first brutal waves of the Battle of Britain. Their survival drags them deeper into a world where choices are few and danger never fades. London trembles under Nazi bombers, and every mission pushes Henry closer to the edge of exhaustion.

What makes Henry’s journey so moving is that he never asked to be a hero. He never wanted the burden of history’s gaze. Yet, alongside Victor’s steady presence and Crimson’s soaring wings, he finds himself becoming a symbol. To the citizens below, they are proof that hope still flies. To the enemy, they are a target that must be destroyed at any cost. This duality fuels the tension that runs through every page.

Whispers of a Dark Rival

Skylark raises the stakes with a chilling revelation. Rumors swirl of another dragon—one trained and controlled by the enemy. It’s a twist that forces Henry and Victor to confront the possibility that their greatest weapon might now belong to their foe.

The idea of fighting a mirror image of Crimson weighs heavily on them. How do you face an enemy that understands your strengths and mirrors your fire? These questions cut deeper than bombs and bullets, testing trust, loyalty, and the fragile bonds that hold the trio together. Skylark’s writing captures the dread of betrayal and the uncertainty of survival, giving readers moments that linger long after the final page.

A Story with Heart

At its core, Orders From Below is more than a wartime fantasy. It’s about people—imperfect, vulnerable, and brave in ways they don’t always recognize. Henry’s neurodivergence shapes his perspective, allowing readers to step into the mind of a hero who doesn’t fit the world’s expectations. His story reflects the reality of those who’ve felt out of place, offering a voice that is rarely centered in fantasy epics.

Skylark portrays difference as strength. Henry’s way of seeing the world is the key to his survival and his ability to inspire others. In this way, the novel becomes more than an adventure. It becomes an affirmation for readers who’ve long searched for characters who reflect their inner battles.

The friendship between Henry and Victor also shines. Their bond is forged through fire and loss, yet it carries the warmth of chosen family. Add Crimson’s fierce loyalty, and you have a trio that embodies what it means to stand together when the world demands you fall apart.

The Voice Behind the Legend

B.T. Skylark brings an authenticity to their writing that comes from lived experience. Based in Brighton, UK, Skylark balances creativity with everyday joys—gardening, cooking, gaming, and sharing life with a supportive husband and three energetic dogs. Their academic background in Psychology and Criminology adds depth to the way characters think and respond to trauma, while their personal journey as a neurodivergent writer shapes the honesty on every page.

Writing began as therapy for Skylark, but it has since grown into a powerful tool for representation. Their mission is to create stories for readers who feel unseen, misunderstood, or overlooked. By giving those characters center stage, Skylark offers both comfort and recognition.

A Trilogy Worth Following

The Crimson Wings trilogy unfolds as a powerful blend of myth and history. The first book, The Boy Who Flew, published in June 2025, introduced readers to Henry, Victor, and Crimson. The second book, Orders From Below, expands their world, testing them against greater threats and darker truths. The journey is set to conclude with Rise of the Fallen, expected in November 2025, promising a finale that will bring their legend full circle.

For fans of historical fantasy, this series delivers the best of both worlds. It grounds itself in the harsh reality of war while opening doors to wonder and legend. Dragons fly above London, but the story remains rooted in human choices and sacrifices.

Why This Story Matters

What makes Orders From Below so compelling is its blend of spectacle and heart. Readers will find thrilling battles and tense showdowns, but they’ll also find reflections of their own fears, hopes, and strengths. It’s a reminder that courage is about standing tall when the world feels like it’s collapsing.

B.T. Skylark’s voice ensures that this story resonates beyond its pages. Orders From Below is more than a tale of dragons and war. It’s a book for anyone who has ever felt different, who has ever doubted their place, yet found the courage to keep moving forward.

We had the privilege of interviewing the author. Here are excerpts from the interview:

Hi, Thank you so much for joining us today! Please introduce yourself and tell us what you do.

My name is B.T. Skylark, and I’m a neurodivergent author from Brighton in the UK. I write historical fantasy with a focus on characters who don’t always have a voice in traditional storytelling. My books bring together history, imagination, and representation to create stories of courage, belonging, and resilience.

Please tell us about your journey.

I began writing after completing my degree in Psychology and Criminology in 2025. At first, it was something therapeutic — a way to process and relax — but it quickly grew into a passion. I wanted to write stories that reflected the experiences of people like me: those who feel different, who don’t always fit in, and whose voices are often left out or misunderstood. My Crimson Wings series combines my love of history, fantasy, and representation, weaving them into something I hope resonates with readers of all ages.

What are the strategies that helped you become successful in your journey?

Consistency has been key — showing up for my writing even on difficult days. I’ve also leaned into authenticity, writing the stories I needed when I was younger rather than chasing trends. Engaging with my readers has been incredibly rewarding, as has connecting with independent bookstores and building a supportive online community.

Any message for our readers?

Never underestimate the power of your own story. Even if you feel like you don’t fit in, there is space for you, and there are people who will connect deeply with your truth. And to readers — thank you. Every time you pick up a book, you give an author’s voice a chance to live.

Thank you so much, B.T. Skylark, for giving us your precious time! We wish you all the best for your journey ahead!
