S. Lee Does It Again! ‘That’s Why the Cat Did That’ Is the Most Delightful Children’s Book of 2025!

A Cat With Countless Tales

Jet Li might look like any ordinary house cat, but “That’s Why the Cat Did That” reveals he’s anything but. Authored by S. Lee and published by CheeFreedomPress, this colorful children’s book offers a peek into a cat’s world of secret adventures and hidden pasts. From tipping over flower pots to ignoring lavish cat beds for the simplest box, Jet Li’s quirky behaviors are hilariously linked to the grand escapades he’s experienced across numerous lifetimes. Children, parents, and cat enthusiasts alike will find themselves smirking at each page of this whimsical, rhyme-filled story.

At its core, the book’s charm lies in how it marries fun, imaginative storytelling with gentle lessons about history and geography. S. Lee’s playful writing style keeps the tone lighthearted, yet there’s plenty of room for readers to reflect on global cultures and eras. Whether it’s ancient Egypt or a misty London street, each adventure Jet Li recounts opens a window into a place or period that sparks curiosity. Why does he sprawl out in that random sunbeam? Maybe he spent a lifetime keeping pharaohs company among the Egyptian pyramids!

History in the Furriest Form

Parents who pick up “That’s Why the Cat Did That” often find themselves enjoying the historical tidbits just as much as their children. Thanks to an engaging rhyme scheme and cartoon-like illustrations, the storyline slides smoothly between different eras. One moment, readers see Jet Li acting as a loyal guardian in a hidden temple. The next, he’s bustling around a medieval castle in the role of an absurdly funny jester.

Beyond simple entertainment, these vignettes serve as prompts for kids to ask questions about the wide world and its past. Teachers, too, can seize the opportunity to make history lessons come alive: a quick classroom reading might encourage discussions about geography, cultures, and traditions. Even the quirkiest cat-related moments become valuable learning points that captivate young minds. It’s one thing to hear about foreign countries; it’s another to imagine a mischievous cat exploring them firsthand.

The Pleasure of Shared Reading

For families, this book’s warmth comes from a balance of silly rhymes and universal cat truths. Almost anyone with a feline friend has wondered why their pet engages in behaviors that seem borderline bizarre—like zooming across the room in the middle of the night or toppling items off a shelf with effortless grace. S. Lee has crafted each of these everyday mysteries into a springboard for bigger, more imaginative stories. Kids might finally have an entertaining explanation for the cat’s unbreakable fascination with an empty cardboard box. Perhaps, in a previous life, Jet Li was shipping himself off to an uncharted land!

Despite the humorous twists, there’s a gentle undertone of empathy woven into the text. Children quickly realize that every little quirk—like stretching out in a narrow windowsill—could be an echo of Jet Li’s extraordinary experience in a distant time. The message is subtle but clear: everyone has a history that influences how they behave, even if that someone happens to be a chubby ball of fur.

Perfect for Cat Lovers of All Ages

Don’t be fooled into thinking this story is strictly for children. Adults who adore cats will find plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, whether it’s the cat’s comedic timing or his refusal to follow the simplest instructions. Jet Li, with his ever-evolving personality, is the type of feline who could carry an entire conversation—if only he could talk. At the heart of the book is a strong sense of delight in feline antics, sure to resonate with anyone who’s ever been perplexed by a cat’s behavior.

The narrative pace is quick, making it perfect for bedtime storytelling or a short classroom read. The rhymes give the story a playful bounce, while the illustrations capture Jet Li’s expressive face in all its varying moods—curiosity, mischief, and occasional regal boredom. Children remain engaged, giggling at one rhyme after another, while cat-loving adults might recognize their own pets in some of Jet Li’s more exaggerated actions.

The Vision Behind the Adventure

Lee, the creator of this delightful tale, is not only an author but also an illustrator who breathes life into each page through color and humor. Growing up in San Diego and raising a family of her own, she has long been an advocate for using the arts to inspire learning. Her other works, such as “Olivia Surfs the Stars” and “Treasure the Goat,” reflect this same passion for imaginative storytelling.

The inspiration for “That’s Why the Cat Did That” sprang from a real-life feline named Jet Li, a beloved cat adopted by her uncle and aunt. Observing his peculiar mannerisms day after day, S. Lee began crafting backstories for why he might behave so mysteriously. What started as a family joke evolved into a captivating book that entertains children and pets lovers around the world.

In the end, “That’s Why the Cat Did That” is more than just a lighthearted children’s book. It’s a reminder that even the most ordinary creature can carry a universe of stories behind those bright, curious eyes. Every playful leap, every sudden dash through the house, and every dramatic nap may be part of a tale that stretches far beyond the present moment. And whether readers are six or sixty, they’ll come away smiling, perhaps convinced their own cat is hiding a past just as remarkable.
